Even if Jack hadn't won, the elected council people were still more than suited for their positions. And, most importantly, a party was a party. Ianto kept the Hub open, expecting an eventual deluge of people as the evening drew on and the party spilled outwards. He kept himself to a seltzer and juice mixture, not feeling a particular need to get trashed tonight. No, tonight was a celebration, but more of a social one with natural high spirits.

Geoffrey's looking deliberately for Ianto when he slips into the Hub, sitting down nearby when he finds him. Not because he needs him for anything, just because he feels they ought to be spending a little more time together.

"Just looking for a bit of a breather," he says, putting his feet up. "I don't suppose you've got anything ice cold back there, do you?"

"I've got an ice machine and a mini fridge built into this thing," Ianto replied as he moved over to Geoffrey, wiping down the counter as he walked. "Anything you want, I can take care of."

"Excellent," says Geoffrey, rubbing his hands together. "I'm not picky, I just want something refreshing. It's warm out there, and all the bodies just make it warmer."

Jaye was getting less and less picky about the parties she attended. She knew alcohol wouldn't be a part of this one, but after so long being cooped up in her trailer, a little time outside in a crowded area actually sounded OKAY. Getting lost in a crowd was just as effective as getting lost alone sometimes.

Besides, Veronica had won, and that was always cool. And, as much as she'd hate to admit it, getting dressed up in a cute dress always helped her spirits.

It feels strange not to have either Major Winters or Lieutenant Compton in a position of command, but every morning in this place is a reminder of all the things that are different. With only days away from my birthday, I'm trying to relax and not get in the typical annual depressive low. It's not like that's the most attractive thing in the world.

I've managed a pair of jeans with a button-down, sleeves rolled up to the elbows while I pick at food and see if I can't manage to find a drink here or there.

Always one to sense a fellow soldier in distress, Sonya walked over to Web, dressed in a black skirt and green blouse.

"Not happy with the election results?" Sonya couldn't blame him. She voted for Winters as one of her choices-it may've been that he just reminded her of Maj. Briggs back home.

I shrug idly at that, because the truth is that while I'm not exactly displeased, I did like the thought of having Winters or Buck there to serve my interests. "It's a fine Council, even if they aren't mine. So maybe. Yes. Maybe a little unhappy."

"I imagine having one of your own on council would be reassuring. Like you'd know how they'd treat a situation."

She'd have to take his word about it being a fine council though.

Normally, Sally refused to go to a place that didn't have some alcohol for her. She supposed though that it would do her well to be kind and celebrate the election of a whole new (or the same, really) group of people. And besides, she was still basking in the lack of Tories.

If nothing else, that was the perfect reason to celebrate.

Mathias has picked at some food, considered a drink and then decided against it and is now standing near the outskirts of the party, watching the crowd. It's a far cry from his first party on the island, the first time he'd managed to venture out of the Compound, the fact that he'd had to be drunk just to get the door open, but it's a good sort of change.

There's much he doesn't understand about the island still and even about what he feels for Veronica, but he knows she's right for the job. And he knows he's proud of her. That's good enough.

Jim had sort of been biding his time. There'd never quite been the right moment to talk to the guy, and with this party atmosphere, he thought he finally found it. What led him over was honest curiosity, especially with the high praise Veronica gave him.

So it was while she was crazy. It was a minor detail.

"Mathias, right?" he asked, Sam in his arms. She regarded him with a curious look, hiding behind Jim's leg. She was shy around people she didn't know sometimes. Offering his hand, he added, "I'm Jim. Halpert. A friend of Veronica's."

Already this week he's had to meet Veronica's dad and while that was certainly nerve wracking in a way, it's somehow worse meeting her friends. He expects the third degree from her father, but it's the friends who will judge silently rather than vocally.

"Mathias, yes," he answers, shaking Jim's hand. He doubts he looks nervous, but he can certainly fee it. "It's good to meet you. Is this your daughter?"

He was pretty sure Veronica was going to give him the eye if he was spotted doing what he was doing. It was worth it. Turning his head to look at Sam, who was peeking out from behind his leg, he smiled.

"Yeah, she is. Come on, Sam. Come say hi to Aunt Veronica's special friend," he encouraged. Hearing Veronica's name seemed to catch her interest, but she was still a little hesitant.

"Hi," she said, looking up at Mathias with big eyes. It was a start, anyway.

"Sorry, she's a little shy around new people sometimes," he explained. He knew she'd come around eventually. Glancing back at the man, he added, "Veronica's told me a lot about you. I thought I'd come meet the man in person."
