Sometimes, even though he has accepted now that he's not only a father but an adult, Jack can't quite resist the call of his practice swords. The ends are blunt, the blades can't cut, he can't do any sort of damage with them, but they still look really cool when they swish through the air. That's kind of the point of them, after all, and that ( Read more... )

Walking towards Jack up on the stage, Lil was momentarily glad that she didn't have Emmy with her; mimicking was absolutely Emmy's favourite thing at the moment. She was getting quite good at accents. Lily shoved her curly hair back from her face and leaned on the edge of the stage, looking up at him.

"Problems, honey?"

"Too many to name," Jack answers with a pained laugh, but he's smiling as he plunks himself down at the edge of the stage and looks at Lily. "This is what happens when I let myself get out of practice, I guess. I end up smacking myself in the leg with a sword."

It's definitely going to bruise, his skin is already a little swollen and tender.

"Let me look at it," said Lily moving to stand in front of him. "I'll give you my professional opinion."

Lily grew up with Chris Cutter and James Lennox. She met Eddie when she was fourteen. She's pretty used to the idea that men never really grow out of being the boys that they were once.

Gently, Jack extends his leg so that Lily can see it, wincing a little bit. "Your professional opinion of my injury or of my practicing?" he asks, but he's giving her a little grin. It's obvious by this little incident that he needs to get more practice in before he has to do any real work for any of the new plays.

"I'm okay," Jack assures him, flashing a faintly embarrassed grin as he limps toward the edge of the stage and manages to sit down. "I'm just a little out of practice, I guess."

This is why he's practicing. So that he doesn't do something like this in front of Geoffrey or anyone he's supposed to be teaching.

"Don't worry about it," Jack says, waving it off. "It's just a practice sword anyway, but I lend them out to the plays all the time. I don't mind."

Besides, it's not like he can do much with it while his leg is still throbbing. It wouldn't stop him from trying, so it's probably good Roxas if holds onto it.

"I'm Jack," he adds, offering his hand. "Jack Crew."

"Just so you know," says Geoffrey, looking down from from where he's been staring for some time at the wiring for the lights, as though he can do something with it, "if you lose a leg, you're playing a tree stump in the next play."

"If I lose a leg like this, I'd definitely deserve it," Jack agrees, hopping over to the edge of the stage before he lets himself collapse into a sitting position. "Shit, that hurts. I was kind of hoping you wouldn't see it."

"I see all, I know all," says Geoffrey. "Or at least I do when I'm sitting up on a balcony. Do you want me to come down and take a look at it?"

"You can come down, but I think I'm okay," Jack answers, tipping his head back long enough to grin at Geoffrey. His knee hurts, but it's really not that bad. "It's gonna bruise and it'll look worse than it is."

Peter's drawn by the noise and perhaps the concern and his eyes widen almost comically when he sees precisely what's happening. "What in heavens name are you doing? ...and I can't really envision any answer being less than incredibly stupid, so maybe let's skip to 'are you okay?'"

Jack has to laugh at that, hopping over to the edge of the stage so he can sit down, his knee still throbbing from the blow. "I was just practicing," he protests, looking torn between amusement and pain. "And I'll be okay. It'll probably bruise, but I've done worse before."

"I sadly believe it," Peter notes as he shakes his head and laughs warmly, approaching and extending a hand. "Care to come ice it at the Compound?" he suggests. "Or are manly bruises the in-thing these days?"

"I'm interested in the ice," Jack says, picking up the sword with one hand and taking Peter's with the other, getting up off the stage. "Do you mind helping me walk? I think it'll be okay, but it hurts like a son of a bitch right now."

"And here I thought you were supposed to know what you're doing," Lionel comments. He thanks his luck that his timing's brought him to the stage just in time to see Jack make a fool of himself.

Not that Lionel would ever say it out loud.

"I do know what I'm doing," Jack protests as he hobbles toward the edge of the stage and flops down, taking the weight off his knee. "I'm just a little bit out of practice because of Sam." He'll blame the baby. He will absolutely blame it on the baby.

"Oh, sure," Lionel accepts readily and easily, which means he doesn't believe it one single bit. "It's Sam's fault you had a klutzy moment and now probably have a bruise you'll have to explain away to Kate."

Still, even amongst the teasing, Lionel's concerned. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine," Jack assures him, looking down at his knee. "It's just gonna bruise, it won't fall off or anything. And it's definitely not broken."

Then he looks up and lifts his eyebrows. "Me. Having to explain a bruise to Kate. The queen of injuries? No way."
