Sometimes, even though he has accepted now that he's not only a father but an adult, Jack can't quite resist the call of his practice swords. The ends are blunt, the blades can't cut, he can't do any sort of damage with them, but they still look really cool when they swish through the air. That's kind of the point of them, after all, and that ( Read more... )

"I'm okay," Jack assures him, flashing a faintly embarrassed grin as he limps toward the edge of the stage and manages to sit down. "I'm just a little out of practice, I guess."

This is why he's practicing. So that he doesn't do something like this in front of Geoffrey or anyone he's supposed to be teaching.

"Don't worry about it," Jack says, waving it off. "It's just a practice sword anyway, but I lend them out to the plays all the time. I don't mind."

Besides, it's not like he can do much with it while his leg is still throbbing. It wouldn't stop him from trying, so it's probably good Roxas if holds onto it.

"I'm Jack," he adds, offering his hand. "Jack Crew."

"I'll be okay. I've done worse," Jack promises with a grin. "And yeah, Geoffrey Tennant directs plays here. Usually Shakespeare, but I'm trying to get him to consider some other writers, too. How long have you been on the island?"

Most people who have been around for awhile know about the plays already, so Jack thinks Roxas must be a newer arrival.

"Shakespeare's this really old writer," Jack says, waving that off, too. "I didn't know much about him until I met Geoffrey. I mean, I knew he existed, but I'd never read any of his plays or anything."

"All sorts of things. Sometimes he writes comedies and sometimes he writes tragedies. The last one we did was a tragedy, but it had a bunch of sword fights in it," Jack says. "I helped choreograph the fights for the stage, that's sort of why I'm practicing. Just in case I have to do it again."

"It is," Jack agrees with a grin. "You obviously know how to handle a sword yourself. Is it something you did a lot of back home?"

After three years, he isn't surprised by all the places people come from anymore, and he isn't at all surprised by all the talents people have.

"Monsters," Jack repeats, his eyebrows lifting curiously. "What kinds of monsters?" He talks to superheroes on the island, he's working on a film with Tony Stark and now he's meeting someone who has fought monsters. Sometimes the side of him that still loves comic books can't believe how great this place is.

"There's a lot of bad shit that can't exist here, it seems," Jack agrees, then winces a little. "Sorry for the bad language. I can, uh... curb that if you want." He's not used to hanging around people who aren't either adults or too small to understand what he's saying.
