Friday Dinner, with...special guest?

May 01, 2009 11:21

Draco woke up in his cozy bed, in the company of friends just across the room, and felt absolutely spectacular. A bright grin stretched his pale face, and though he couldn't hear them, he knew that the birds were singing outside. That the day was lovely and warm, and it was the perfect time for a little sun, on the beach. Clambering out of bed, he ( Read more... )

Stephen was famished. The food smelled delicious, as always, and was that shrimp he smelled? He loved shrimp! God, life was so great. Why would anyone ever complain?

In the kitchen, he saw two people he knew. That was fantastic, too! Of course, Stephen always liked meeting new people, but he couldn't deny that he enjoyed seeing those he had met before. Especially that kind blond boy with the robot; they had really connected.

"Hi!" Stephen greeted cheerfully, hand waving to anyone and everyone in the room.

(aaaanyone is welcome, yo. Draco especially, though. ;D)

"Stephen!" Draco said excitedly, as if he was greeting a dear, old friend. He held up his knife and half a mango and beamed, "Look, I'm cooking."

It was certainly something to celebrate, and he had no earthly idea why he'd fought to stubbornly against it before. It was all so much fun.

It was really sodding weird, seeing Draco greet anyone that excitedly, and Bill gave his head just a little shake as he put the salad together. "This salad's almost done, and the spaghetti's ready there if you want to get started," he said to Stephen with a friendly smile.

People were always so nice around here! Stephen loved it so.

"I see that!" he said to Draco, almost proud. Stephen was never able to cook very well, so he was impressed when anyone could. "I bet it's all delicious, too!"

Speaking of, that spaghetti was clearly calling to him. He beamed at Bill as he got a plate ready.

So he didn't often come in to Friday dinners, but today he saw no conceivable reason why he'd want to skip it. Well...that wasn't fair. He was not adverse to skipping a few meals for a good cause or two, but the only cause he had on hand was Carolyn. Incredible as she could be, he didn't want her to get old--it would be no good if a reliable fall-back lost its novelty.

Further reason to go to the dinner, he might find someone new and interesting. He'd had a pretty decent track record so far. Where better than a scheduled meal?

He was immediately grateful for deciding to go, as it smelled delicious, and he dragged up a chair to grab a plate. "There a special occasion for a double cook?"

"Does there need to be a special occasion to want to help a friend?" Draco asked with a bright smile, thinking the man was a bit silly for asking but not blaming him one bit. It was unusual, after all.

Okay...that was a bit cliche. Still, the food looked good, and he didn't really care if some random kid had gotten caught up in the moment or not. Maybe sometime he'd commend Bill for getting friends who'd willingly take the work of the kitchen shift while allowing him to keep the credit.

"Nah, why should there be?" He shrugged. "Just never saw it."

"Well, it should happen more often, if you ask me," Draco said with a firm nod, putting his knife safely aside and dumping the last of the fruit into the bowl Bill had so kindly provided.

"You can help yourself, I'm sure it's all delicious." Accept maybe the fruit salad. He couldn't claim perfection in that area, he'd only just begun to learn.

Strange doings or not, Charlie still had to eat. Fridays were the best because when Bill was doing the cooking, he could take the piss and still count on getting fed. He wouldn't pull such things with the other cooks.

He surely didn't expect to see Malfoy there, though. Nor did he ever expect to see the bloke so...well...present, actually. Charlie looked at his brother questioningly, shook his head, and took a plate.

"Got a new mate, Bill?" he asked as he stole a chunk of mango.

"I'd like to think, by now, we could consider ourselves old friends, don't you think, Bill?" Draco asked hopefully, putting down the knife just long enough to give Charlie a cheerful wave.

They were really just so lucky to have so many Weasley's running about. It made the place feel more like home.

Old friends. Charlie had a feeling that Malfoy was as nutters as half the rest of the people around, however, it was at least amusing. On the list of things he never thought he'd see, this was at the top.

"Right, then," he nodded. "Reckon any mote of Bill's is a mate of mine. You're in for it though, Malfoy. The wanker will have you doing dishes while he chats up the birds."

"Oh, that's alright," Draco said with almost comical sincerity, "It's the least I can do to make up for all the times I've eaten here without lifting a finger." With that, he looked dreadfully repentant, wishing he could take back every horrid thing he'd ever done, every horrid thing he'd said about the wonderful Weasley clan.

"Would you like some fruit salad, Charlie?"

Angua wandered into the kitchen, humming under her breath, a cheerful smile on her face. "Oh, hello, Draco!" she said, giving a dainty wave in his direction. She had her cross stitch with her, and sat down at one of the tables to wait for Dean.

"You look well. How are you, today?" she chirped, setting to work on finishing the Home Sweet Home stitching.

"Angua, hello!" he said happily, finishing up the last of his chopping and hurrying over to say a proper hello. He could take a short break, especially to greet such a dear friend.

"I'm perfectly wonderful! And you look lovely, dear. How are you?"

Angua smiled up at Draco. Oh, it was so good to see him looking so happy for once!

"I am very well, thank you," she said, pausing mid-stitch. "Would you care to join me for lunch, or are you too busy?"

"I'm sure Bill wouldn't mind if I take a short break," Draco smiled, "Would you like for me to fetch you a plate, I'd be more than happy to."

Trance stared. That was Draco, unless he was one of the clones around. And he was helping out. Actually cooking. She moved closer, pressing a hand to his forehead. "Draco? Are you feeling okay?" Well, it wasn't like he was warm. Or at least not any warmer than average.

"Yes, of course, Trance," he said with a worried frown, letting her touch him without protest, "Why wouldn't I be? It's a wonderful day."

"Because usually by now you would have snapped me about touching you unless you really were feeling ill and then you'd still make a disagreeable remark, but you'd suffer through my pokings and proddings." It was a rather fair assessment of Draco's normal character, she thought.

"I would not!" he argued, terribly affronted that she would even think he could be so caustic. Then, realizing she was a nice person and probably wouldn't lie, he sheepishly asked, "Would I?"
