Friday Dinner, with...special guest?

May 01, 2009 11:21

Draco woke up in his cozy bed, in the company of friends just across the room, and felt absolutely spectacular. A bright grin stretched his pale face, and though he couldn't hear them, he knew that the birds were singing outside. That the day was lovely and warm, and it was the perfect time for a little sun, on the beach. Clambering out of bed, he ( Read more... )

So he didn't often come in to Friday dinners, but today he saw no conceivable reason why he'd want to skip it. Well...that wasn't fair. He was not adverse to skipping a few meals for a good cause or two, but the only cause he had on hand was Carolyn. Incredible as she could be, he didn't want her to get old--it would be no good if a reliable fall-back lost its novelty.

Further reason to go to the dinner, he might find someone new and interesting. He'd had a pretty decent track record so far. Where better than a scheduled meal?

He was immediately grateful for deciding to go, as it smelled delicious, and he dragged up a chair to grab a plate. "There a special occasion for a double cook?"

"Does there need to be a special occasion to want to help a friend?" Draco asked with a bright smile, thinking the man was a bit silly for asking but not blaming him one bit. It was unusual, after all.

Okay...that was a bit cliche. Still, the food looked good, and he didn't really care if some random kid had gotten caught up in the moment or not. Maybe sometime he'd commend Bill for getting friends who'd willingly take the work of the kitchen shift while allowing him to keep the credit.

"Nah, why should there be?" He shrugged. "Just never saw it."

"Well, it should happen more often, if you ask me," Draco said with a firm nod, putting his knife safely aside and dumping the last of the fruit into the bowl Bill had so kindly provided.

"You can help yourself, I'm sure it's all delicious." Accept maybe the fruit salad. He couldn't claim perfection in that area, he'd only just begun to learn.

"Oh, yeah, definitely. The more behind the counter, the better the end result is for everyone, right?"

He gave a slim grin as he reached for food. He was beginning to suspect the kid was one of those unfortunate enough to have been rendered an idiot for the duration of the island's fun.
