It had been almost a week since the body had appeared, but life on the island had gone back to normal fairly quickly. In fact, everything had passed by so smoothly, it was almost as if it had never happened... Though just because he wasn't staring at the inside of a cell didn't mean Logan was okay. Something had changed that morning on the beach, ( Read more... )

Harry had seen Logan that day, on the beach, motionless but breathing and next to a dead body. Harry had looked upon the scene, had kicked Logan a few times in the rib, but had gotten no answer. It had looked like a set-up, mostly because Logan didn't seem like the killing kind to Harry.

He thought about removing the body, get rid of the evidence for him, clean him up a bit and leave him drunk but innocent. He had even kneeled down to check on the dead body.

While doing so some blood had spilled on his hands. He had looked at them and for some reason they started shaking. Uncontrollably. So he left instead.

It was the second time the kid had turned Harry back to his pills. That alone would be reason to top him.

It was definitely reason to hesistate in greeting him.

Logan laughed, gently putting Matthew back down as he sat back up, and taking the book from the child's hand with a grin.

He was about to ask Matthew if he wanted to try building again, when he noticed someone watching him. ...Not just anyone, but Harry. His smile faltered for a moment as he found himself unsure of what to say, but eventually returned as he put the book back down and instead handed Matthew some juice.

"Hey," he said finally, not quite inviting Harry closer, but not chasing him off either.

"Hey," Harry replied, not coming any closer, but not leaving either. "How are you?" Casual question, not so casual tone of voice.

"Fine," Logan lied easily, shrugging one shoulder as he kept one eye on the young child. "How are you, man?" he asked, glancing up and moving to rest his elbows on his knees.

Josh was heading for the bookshelf, hoping for a newspaper, but all he'd found was row after row of children's books. When he heard the squeal, he smiled, nodding. Right. That explains it. He smiled crookedly, looking down at the man with the kid. "It's a bird- It's a plane--"

Logan tipped his head back, curious to see who was talking, and the game seemed to stop for a moment even though Matthew never stopped laughing and wriggling.

Logan wasn't the friendliest of people at his best, and for all he'd improved on that front over the last few months, the look he gave the other man could be summed up in five simple words. Who the fuck are you?

His brow quirked, and he pulled his attention from the man to smile at Matthew before carefully putting him down.

"If you're looking for something that doesn't star Elmo or Spot, you're shit out of luck, man," he said finally, nodding at the shelf. "Apparently it's only catering to the three and under crowd right now."

Josh was forgettable enough to get that look often enough, and arrogant and busy enough not to give a damn. Here, he noticed it a little more, but thankfully, the arrogance hadn't worn off just yet. He quirked an eyebrow and shrugged, glancing over at the bookshelf. "So it would seem."

Logan had a vague idea of who the other man was, but he didn't let on. It wasn't as if he was that great at matching names to faces anyway, so there was hardly anything strange about the way he seemed to treat the other man.

"There were parenting magazines mixed in before," he offered. "You know, in case you're harboring the urge to bake a pie or make sock puppets... Looked like they had one hell of a how-to guide."

"You've stolen Anne's child," I observed once I'd swallowed the bite of apple I'd stolen from the kitchen. I hardly cared that things were free for the taking and everyone was welcome to them. I stole it, and that thought pleased me.

Today I had a modest dress. That's what I get for going to the clothing box with Tonks. It seems to think we should dress the same. No matter, it fit and was pretty, although it only made my stomach look larger than it already was.

"Is this what you've been doing since I haven't seen you?"

"Stealing children and teaching them to fly? Yeah, pretty much," Logan lied easily, lifting Matthew higher again before carefully putting him down with a grin.

He glanced at Vala briefly, offering her a smile, and then handed Matthew one of the toys that littered the floor.

"I imagine there are worse ways to spend your time," I conceded with a small shrug. Taking another bite, I wandered closer and leaned in to kiss him on the cheek. "It's wonderful to see you, darling. I'd hoped you hadn't vanished as well."

"Someone vanished?" Logan asked, laying down on he floor again, and letting out a huff of air as Mathew climbed on top of him and accidentally whacked him with the plush he'd been playing with. Not that any more bruising would make much of a difference. He was still a little blue and yellow all over from brawling on the beach.

"Ain't that the cutest fucking picture?" Joe asked as he walked into the rec room and although he said it in that same fucking tone he said everything, there was something sincere in his words, too. It was kind of tough not to know what was going on, especially after knowing Logan for so long, but he knew Logan could pull through this.

Standing over Logan, Joe looked down at him and grinned. "Considering this place, I wouldn't be surprised to see him fly for real someday."

"You going to fly for real, kid?" Logan asked Matthew, grinning and tickling the small boy's sides as he lowered him and slowly sat up. "Better take me with you sometime."

Putting the boy down, he looked over at Joe and offered a small uneasy smile. "Anne's off doing- uh, something. She'll be back soon though."

Joe shrugged, lifting his shoulders before he sat himself down beside Logan easily. "Figured she would be. I was kinda looking for you, though, so finding you works out for me in that way, doesn't it?"

It wasn't that he'd been looking specifically for Logan, that he had something to tell him or something to do, but he just wanted to make sure he was okay. Spend some time with him.

"Oh," Logan said quietly, picking up one of the books he'd been playing with and pretending to flick through it. "What do you need, man?" he asked.
