It had been almost a week since the body had appeared, but life on the island had gone back to normal fairly quickly. In fact, everything had passed by so smoothly, it was almost as if it had never happened... Though just because he wasn't staring at the inside of a cell didn't mean Logan was okay. "Ain't that the cutest fucking picture?" Joe asked as he walked into the rec room and although he said it in that same fucking tone he said everything, there was something sincere in his words, too. It was kind of tough not to know what was going on, especially after knowing Logan for so long, but he knew Logan could pull through this.

Standing over Logan, Joe looked down at him and grinned. "Considering this place, I wouldn't be surprised to see him fly for real someday."

"You going to fly for real, kid?" Logan asked Matthew, grinning and tickling the small boy's sides as he lowered him and slowly sat up. "Better take me with you sometime."

Putting the boy down, he looked over at Joe and offered a small uneasy smile. "Anne's off doing- uh, something. She'll be back soon though."

Joe shrugged, lifting his shoulders before he sat himself down beside Logan easily. "Figured she would be. I was kinda looking for you, though, so finding you works out for me in that way, doesn't it?"

It wasn't that he'd been looking specifically for Logan, that he had something to tell him or something to do, but he just wanted to make sure he was okay. Spend some time with him.

"Oh," Logan said quietly, picking up one of the books he'd been playing with and pretending to flick through it. "What do you need, man?" he asked.

"Since when do I have to need something?" Joe asked, slouching back a little as he grabbed one of the books as well. "Just coming to see how you're doing. Maybe hang out a little. Pretty much the usual."

"Sorry, I'm just- I dunno, a little wound tight, I guess," Logan admitted. "How's it going, Joe?" he asked, rubbing his palm over his short hair and offering an awkward smile.

"Yeah, I know," Joe said, reaching over to give Logan's shoulder a gentle squeeze. "Kinda don't blame you, y'know? Still just wanted to come hang out with you, talk about shit if you wanted to or just keep you company if you didn't." It was about all he was good at most of the time.

Logan nodded, leaning lightly against the other man. Truthfully, Joe didn't have to do or say anything. Sometimes just knowing he was there was enough to make Logan feel better. Even when dealing with the worst things life could throw at him.

Watching them curiously for a moment, Matthew seemed to grow tired of waiting for the two of them to do something and he picked up one of the books and held it toward Logan. "Seems like he wants you to do something with that," Joe pointed out, giving Logan a faint grin. "Were you reading to him?"

"Not exactly," Logan said, offering a soft laugh. "We, were building, actually. Or, I was building and he was knocking things down. He's really good at knocking shit down, man."

"A future on the building crew," Joe said with a smirk, then watched as Matthew flopped the book about impatiently. "Seems like he wants you to do it again, probably just so he can knock it over."

"Screw that, he'll be running the damn crew, won't you, kid?" Logan grinned, starting to build again, much to Matthew's delight. "Gonna just sit there, Joe, or are you gonna help?"

"Most of the time I just sit here," Joe answered, grinning, but he grabbed a couple of the books and, following Logan's example, began to help him build.

After a few moments of silence, he glanced over at Logan and asked, "You're doing okay, though, right? I mean, I know you can't be great, but you're... okay?"

"I'm alive, so- yeah, sure, I'd put that in the okay column," Logan shrugged, staring down at his hands in an attempt to avoid eye contact. "Whatever, it wasn't even a big deal here. They let me go once they had proof I didn't kill him, so- whatever."

"Proof you didn't do it or not, doesn't feel good to get a reminder of a lot of bad shit from back home," Joe pointed out gently. Stacking the books carefully, he watched Matthew, not wanting Logan to make him uncomfortable by looking at him for too long or too hard.
