Dear diary, today I was promiscuous and my sister was masochistic.

The last week was all kind of a haze for House. Not the good kind of haze, but hazy all the same. Which was, in itself, probably a good thing. It wasn't exactly something he wanted to remember clearly. Just a lot of pain, and feeling like shit, and throwing up, and staring at the ceiling, and grumbling at anyone who came near, which for the ( Read more... )

By the time Chase had found House, he'd looked in about all the regular haunts he could imagine and found him where he really hadn't expected (Phedre's place was on the list, it had just been one of the lowest rungs). "Cameron is smashing fruit because of you and won't tell me why," he said in greeting. "She said I had to come ask you."

House bit back a groan when he saw Chase. Fucking hell. He ventures outside for the first time in a week, and is immediately confronted by one of the people he most doesn't want to see. Though after nearly four years of this he really shouldn't be that surprised.

"Let's play twenty questions," he said dryly, flipping a page on the diary and trying not to look like he was half-dead. "I'll give you a hint. It's not bigger than a breadbox."

Chase just folded his arms across his torso and levelled House with a long look, deliberately not reacting and not saying a single word. "She also said something about being used by you. That people would think it. Why?"

House managed not to flinch at the 'being used by you' part even though he wasn't entirely sure what it was supposed to mean anyway. Though the whole thing did verify what he already suspected, which was that Cameron hated him now too. He should probably just try to shoot the moon at this point. Maybe Phedre would catch him with the diary and that would be enough to piss her off too.

"I don't think you understand how this game works," he said. "Why is not a yes or no question."

It was about the time that he'd finished grading his Chinese papers that Daniel realized he'd been secluding himself again. He made a point to set aside his papers and go for a walk. A walk that eventually revealed aimed at Alcuin's. Well, that was fine. He'd say hello to Phedre and Alcuin. Maybe meet the mysterious someone that Phedre was seeing.

And then he turned the corner and, instead of seeing any of the three, saw Gregory House.

He blinked. "Uhh, Dr. House. Is Phedre here? Alcuin, maybe?"

House glanced up from the diary, winced at a throb of pain in his leg, and said, "No, I ate them. I was just about to go inside and put on Phedre's clothes and get in her bed. Aren't you going to tell me what big teeth I have?"

"I'm afraid I left my red riding hood back at my place. I suppose the quickest job I'd be able to fulfill would be the role of the hunstman. I'd have to find a knife, though, and you probably wouldn't enjoy that part of the story as much as you would the other."

Daniel hid a smile, mostly because he'd noticed the wince.

"You okay?"

"Not really," House said. "Your little boyfriend gave me terrible indigestion."

Harry recognised the man as another doctor who worked at the clinic, but he didn't know what his name was. "You don't look like you're enjoying that," he commented. The man didn't look happy good and since he was reading Harry logically connected the two.

House glanced up from the diary, his face drawn and tired. "On the contrary," he said. "This is better than Lesbian Prison Stories. Assuming you've got a thing for French twink sexcapades."

"No, not particularly." To put it mildly. The trouble was, he didn't know this man well enough to tell if he was being sarcastic or not. "I'm glad you like it then," he said a bit weakly. "Unless it's what's been keeping you up at night."

"No, it's what's been keeping him up at night," House corrected. "And up, and up, and up..." Okay, he was running out of stupid sexual innuendo. Especially since he'd only skimmed about two pages of the diary.

Cameron had waited and picked a time that she was least likely to run into any of the beautiful, wafty people that lived at Phedre's-- though House would hardly fit the bill there. Then agian, he was the one she was looking for. Her arms were tired from her new way of dispersing anger, but in them, she carried several battered copies of Lesbian Prison Stories.

She stopped there at the steps.

After four years of this, House really shouldn't be that surprised that when he ventures outside for the first time in a week he's immediately confronted by Cameron.

He eyed the book spines and said, as he tried to look like he wasn't half-dead, "Don't need those, I've got the real thing." He held up the diary.

"Right," Cameron said, shoulders slumping just the tiniest bit. "I-- I don't suppose you do." She set them down next to him anyway.

House was a little perplexed by her reaction. He was expecting slapping or something. "I didn't mean real lesbians," he pointed out. "I haven't been spending the week partying, you know."

Jack was on his way to Mohinder's to check in on Alcuin and see if he what his plans were. That mission was derailed as Padfoot broke away and went tearing along a different path. Jack chased after him, sure it must be something important since the dog never pulled this crap with him.

But, no. Nothing important. He came through the trees and could see Padfoot, already with House. The man looked like hell. Reason said he should simply turn around and walk away. Let the dog stay and be done with it. Except if House was still here...

He sauntered forward, whistling sharply for the dog to come. He was totally ignored.

No one may have been around to see it, but House's face actually lit up when Padfoot ran over to him. "Hey you little fucker you," he said fondly, scratching behind his ears as the dog's tongue lolled happily out of his mouth. It wasn't until he heard the whistle the the dog's presence must mean that Jack was around somewhere.

He slipped his hands into his pockets as he got closer. There was still quite a distance between them when he came to a stop and he kept his eyes on the lab.

"You feeling up to taking him back yet?" he asked flatly.

"If you hadn't noticed, I'm kind of homeless at the moment," House said. "You should probably plan on releasing your house guests at the same time. If you can bare to give up Alcuin, that is. I didn't realize he was so fond of you."
