Dear diary, today I was promiscuous and my sister was masochistic.

The last week was all kind of a haze for House. Not the good kind of haze, but hazy all the same. Which was, in itself, probably a good thing. It wasn't exactly something he wanted to remember clearly. Just a lot of pain, and feeling like shit, and throwing up, and staring at the ceiling, and grumbling at anyone who came near, which for the ( Read more... )

Well aware of Alcuin's antipathy to Dr. House, to say that finding him reading what he recognized immediately as Alcuin's journal surprised him would have been the driest sort of understatement. In fact, he could not imagine a set of circumstances under which Alcuin would leave his journal in the hands of anyone, least of all one he thought of as his nemesis. Until now, he had kept his few conversations with Dr. House entirely professional and kept his distance to avoid giving him yet more irrational impetus to dislike Alcuin, but this he simply could not let pass.

Rather more politely than the situation warranted, Mohinder approached with a pleasant smile and asked, "I don't suppose you have seen Alcuin, this afternoon?"

House glanced up. "Sorry, that bed is closed temporarily while I'm in it." And then he looked back down and turned a page.

"It seems you've gotten into more than his bed." If Dr. House would be rude and obtuse, then Mohinder would be direct.

"Oh, this?" House turned another page in the diary. He was being a dick, but his leg hurt, and it always helped to make someone else miserable too. "Oh, that's where I know you from!" He snapped his fingers. "Mohinder." He turned another page, feigning reading. "And Mohinder..." Another page. "And, oh my, Mohinder..."

I was earlier than I'd thought, coming back from my class with Nick, and was truly surprised to find Greg sitting outside, looking more engrossed in his reading than in whatever pain he might be feeling. That put a smile more firmly on my face than aught I'd seen all week, and I hoped it betokened a permanent turn for the better. "I am impressed," I called out as I approached the house, grinning up at him.

As soon as House heard the voice, all he thought was:

Oh, shit. I am so busted.

He immediately closed the diary and set it down on the steps beside him. "Now that I can walk I figured I should get some fresh air," he said.

"'Tis exactly what you should be doing," I affirmed, drawing closer and pausing at the foot of the steps. "So long as you are not pushing yourself." His look of guilt I attributed to his concern for being scolded-- understandable, after the way I'd been treating him the past week. I studied his face openly; he looked to be enjoying himself, his color was good, indeed 'twas better than I'd hoped to see for some days yet.
