Dean wasn't experienced in throwing parties. The best he'd ever managed was getting three hunters in one place at a time, and that had taken the presence of not one, but three strippers. Dean didn't think that'd go over well for Shari's birthday, so it was fortunate that so many people had stepped up to give Shari a great birthday party ( Read more... )

The food's pretty damn good, if Joe does say so himself (and he does). He leans with his back against a tree, cigarette in one hand, cupcake in the other and he watches the party get going, and it's kind of swell, that a girl as sweet as Shari's got so many guys who love her. Joe's already told Luz that he's a lucky bastard, but if anything ever underlined that, here it is.

For a moment, Joe's torn between his hands, but, in the end, it's his cigarette that he slips between his lips.

I know that things between us are different, now. I know that, rationally, but it still arouses a panic from deep inside me as I approach Joe and pluck the cupcake from his other hand, fixing his shirt and staring at him and only him, back to everyone who's watching the display. "Well?" I ask, fingers brushing his neck as I cup it. "Did you enjoy baking? Or should I say, did you enjoy ogling Helen's breasts?" I add wryly, a smirk on my lips.

Joe gives Webster his best flat look before smiling fondly, reaching for his cupcake with his cigarette still between his lips.

"Webster, you've seen her tits. Are you blaming me for looking? Seriously?"

"Oh, come on," I whine, yanking for the cupcake. "You're smoking, you can't eat this, too." And then as if to lay claim, I lick the top of it, smug and leveling it all at Joe. "And I don't blame you at all," I admit, because even I'm a little amazed by the sheer amazement of them. "Did she let you touch them?"

Sam had made sure to find something that would be a suitable birthday gift and had come up with was a favor. It came in the form of a little wooden paperweight in the shape of a boat that he'd begged off of that Amsterdam guy and had it between his hands as he stood at the party, using his height to keep an eye out for Shari.

Or, you know, to make sure that there were no fights breaking out around the cake.

I bounded over and threw my arms around Sam without a word. Like Jimmy, he was so tall that it was sort of like hugging a tree, and I lingered like that a moment, cheek against his chest, making sure I had fixed the way it felt in my memory. I was getting paranoid about losing people by that point.

The first thing Sam did was hug her back tightly, juggling the gift to make sure he didn't stab anyone with it or...well, or break it. "Hey, birthday girl," he greeted warmly. "I'm pretty sure you and Dean and Jess can just form a club of having them one after the other, at this point." He ducked back, only long enough to present the paperweight with both hands. "And, I actually came prepared for all of them."

"Oh Sam," I gushed as I accepted the little boat. "It's beautiful, really. I love it." I pulled him back into a another hug then, and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "And I love you, too," I added as I drew away, my smile gone vaguely wistful. I couldn't continue on with not telling him. Even had Jimmy not shown up, making it impossible for me to deny, I needed to tell Sam. It was driving me crazy keeping it from him, despite it all.

"We need to talk soon," I added, and smiled to make it seem less ominous. "Just you and me. Not right now, but... soon, okay?"

Of all the parties that have been thrown with Peter and Shari, he feels absolutely obligated to be present at this one and to have a drink in her honour. It simply wouldn't feel the same if not for it and he stands there with a smile, watching the utterly one-sided gender dispersion occur before him.

It almost begs absolutely comment, really.

"Peter!" I was halfway across the clearing when I spied him, and immediately made my way through the testosterone-filled throng with a wave his way. "Hey! You helped, didn't you? Of course you did, it's a party, what am I saying?" I grinned and leaned in to give him a quick peck on the cheek. "Thank you so much, it's amazing."

"I might have to admit to backseating this one," he says ruefully, leaning in to kiss her cheek in return (one for each, in the traditional Italian way he'd been raised in). "You have a staggeringly vast amount of attractive young men doing your bidding for you. What's your secret?"

"It's the cookies," I replied without a blink, and offered Peter a knowing nod. "That old adage about the way to a man's heart being through his stomach? Not so wrong after all."

Bill's always glad for an excuse to party, and that it's for George's girl makes it even better. He don't gotta use his crutches much anymore, so this time he's got his leg from Tony all done up with streamers for the occasion. Plus he got a party hat on his head, which he thinks is pretty fuckin' handsome, and a smack to the back of the head for anybody who says different.

"Now, correct me if I'm wrong," Buck says as he hands out a drink to Bill, some of the good stuff, "but there's something new about you," he teases, a grin broad and pleased on his face. "Don't tell me, Gono. New haircut?"

Bill takes the cup with a grateful nod of his head. "Like I'm gettin' anywhere near Liebgott's torture chair," he quips, complete with a laugh, and downs half the drink in one go.

"Alright, I know you're dying to show off," Buck encourages, gesturing with his hand once the cup's been passed off. "Why don't you give me a little show, here, see what they've given you?"

Origami and playing with paper seems to be my forte, whether I'm putting words on a page or contusing the edges into new shapes and newfangled manners. I'm still playing with a piece of paper idly as I sit nearby on one of the lower tree branches, trying to turn a piece of paper into a crane as my eyes catch the party and keep an eye on everyone there.

And beside me (because I couldn't not) is one of the cupcakes I had absconded with earlier.

"Why am I not surprised that you're over here by yourself?" I asked as I approached, drink in hand. We weren't super-close, Webster and I, but when you practically live with someone, you can't help but pick up on their habits and mannerisms. He wasn't quiet, not like Gene, but he definitely preferred to sit back and watch rather than get involved.

"You helped, didn't you?" I asked, and bent to give him a quick kiss to his temple. "Thank you."

I've mastered the small origami crane by the time she arrives and I present it out to her, my meager attempts to offer something. "Here," I invite, smiling with some degree of bashful nature to me when she thanks me. "And yes, I did help, but once Liebgott decided to bake, it was that or be harangued for not," I comment ruefully. "Enjoying the party?"

"I am, yeah," I replied, and murmured a thank you as he handed over the tiny paper bird. "This is really cool, I'll have to get you to teach me how to do it. Is it difficult?"
