Dean wasn't experienced in throwing parties. The best he'd ever managed was getting three hunters in one place at a time, and that had taken the presence of not one, but three strippers. Dean didn't think that'd go over well for Shari's birthday, so it was fortunate that so many people had stepped up to give Shari a great birthday party.
There was a part of him that wanted to do it all, the same part of Dean that had started thinking of Shari as a little sister ages ago, but he could hardly horde the task for himself when Shari's real brother was on the island. Jim had had a lot of good ideas, though, including a party idea of his own, so in the end Dean was glad he wasn't alone in figuring out what newly minted twenty one year old girls wanted in a celebration.
And for once, Dean had reason to be glad that Shari insisted on knowing so many men, as each had stepped up with contributions to the party. Joe had baked, along with Helen, and some sparkly dude named Vince had decorated the hell out of the clearing they'd chosen for the party. George had folded some lanterns that Dean had taken down when no one was looking, lest they all burn to death. Webster had succeeded in making less flammable decorations, which at least kept George occupied with hanging them up.
And all the while, Angua had marched around, seeing to it that every last detail was perfect. Dean didn't mind. She was hot when she was bossy, and anyway, she'd thrown him and Jess such a kickass party he knew that she knew what she was doing.
Now the lanterns were lit, the cake was frosted, the largely male attendees were ready to descend on it, and everything seemed to be in place.
All the party needed was the birthday girl herself.
