Dean wasn't experienced in throwing parties. The best he'd ever managed was getting three hunters in one place at a time, and that had taken the presence of not one, but three strippers. Dean didn't think that'd go over well for Shari's birthday, so it was fortunate that so many people had stepped up to give Shari a great birthday party

Of all the parties that have been thrown with Peter and Shari, he feels absolutely obligated to be present at this one and to have a drink in her honour. It simply wouldn't feel the same if not for it and he stands there with a smile, watching the utterly one-sided gender dispersion occur before him.

It almost begs absolutely comment, really.

"Peter!" I was halfway across the clearing when I spied him, and immediately made my way through the testosterone-filled throng with a wave his way. "Hey! You helped, didn't you? Of course you did, it's a party, what am I saying?" I grinned and leaned in to give him a quick peck on the cheek. "Thank you so much, it's amazing."

"I might have to admit to backseating this one," he says ruefully, leaning in to kiss her cheek in return (one for each, in the traditional Italian way he'd been raised in). "You have a staggeringly vast amount of attractive young men doing your bidding for you. What's your secret?"

"It's the cookies," I replied without a blink, and offered Peter a knowing nod. "That old adage about the way to a man's heart being through his stomach? Not so wrong after all."

"And here I do no baking of my own," Peter says, a hand over his heart as though to prevent the eternal woe from flowing out. "I suppose I'll make do with Lionel's doting. We've said the L word, you know. It only took a year and change, but here we are."

"Hey, that's great!" I enthused, and gave Peter's arm an encouraging squeeze. "And maybe it took awhile, but at least you got there, right? That's the important thing. You should be able to tell people you love them. You never know when they might not be around anymore."

"In our case, I like to think we had the reasons to wait," he says demurely, smiling at Shari. "Less of the me talk, how about you. You're another year older and engaged, so I hear," he remarks. "I want all the details, of course."

"Well, I hope that after giving you details, you'll agree to help, because I need all the help I can get," I confessed with a smirk. "Most of the people who have agreed to help me are guys, and most guys are clueless when it comes to that kind of thing."

"And I'm a special case," Peter freely admits with a broad smirk on his lips. "That is the one lovely thing about knowing you're gay before you come here. You get all the proper lessons in fashion and society and party planning."
