It was a gallant show of trust that Glitch actually got to do the laundry for once. Not that he could blame Cain for making him avoid the machines - they were fascinating for one, and taking one apart would probably get him in trouble. The other more obvious problem was that whole half a brain thing and sudden short-term memory loss that could pop ( Read more... )

"But not when the shirt is supposed to be blue, sweetheart," Cain pointed out in a grave tone of voice, wondering just what color all his clothes were going this time. He paused where he stood, setting down another pile of laundry he'd collected from the rest of the Homestead.

Glitch smiled at him, actually taking his eyes off the book. "You'd rather have a pink shirt, then?" He paused. "Actually, it's probably kind of purple right now."

Cain took one look at the offending clothes that might have come out a terrible shade of a color and sighed heavily. "Glitch, we may be married, but that doesn't give you the permission to dye all my clothes pink and purple. Sorry."

Glitch frowned at him. "How would being married to you give me any new permission?" he asked. "Aside from legalities, I mean. You're still you, and I'm still me. And it's not like I meant to and you know it." He shrugged, a bit guilty. "I'm just trying to make the best of a bad situation."

He hadn't seen Glitch since...the day of the man's wedding. He chose not to interact with the man, then, but he'd kept an eye on the proceedings--from a safe distance. Glitch remained one of the best opportunities on the island to discover its trickery, and it was in his best interests to remain in contact with the man.

He certainly had no need to be overtly friendly with him, however. Not when he had Hiro to deal with, as well. It was difficult not to comment when he heard the man's statement in the laundry room.

"I don't believe spreading dye is the purpose of the machine."

Glitch couldn't help but grin at Adam (after making sure he was firmly planted on top of the washer). "Well, I figured that it wouldn't hurt since I've already done it once." He paused, eyeing his current seat. "And I think it could be put to more useful purposes anyway, but I don't think anyone would be too happy with me if I tried."

Adam was far too experienced to expect that the island had given up entirely on its fun of causing he or Glitch to crash to the ground every time they encountered one another. He had a feeling it was merely bored--or attempting to mess with their psychology.

"I would have no issue with it." It was a simple statement--he never stooped to using the machines himself--more often than not, washing the clothes by hand was more effective.

Glitch gave him a dubious look. "And you're willing to help me avoid hundreds of angry islanders with dirty drawers?" He shook his head. "No thanks. I don't want my head bashed in with a laundry basket." Glitch couldn't help but put a hand to his head, frowning. "Don't want my head bashed in, period."

"I don't think it works like that," she had watched from the doorway, her smile growing as he added the blue trousers. "You'll likely just get purple now."

And that made Glitch pause. "Red, blue, green primaries, red and blue make..." Purple. He groaned and turned to look at her a bit sheepishly. "I've never been very artistic," he admitted, still mentally kicking himself in the face. He would never live this down.

"It's all right, I'm not very good at maths and things," she looked to the book on electricity he had, setting her own bundle of clothes for washing down on the floor. "We could bleach it to get the pink out, if you'd like."

"I guess that makes a perfect set of skills if we team up," Glitch said with a smile. "I've never been a big fan of bleach, but if it'll save the white stuff, I'm willing to try it." He paused. "Any ideas on how to fix the colored bits in there, or are they officially stuck being purple now?"

"What are you reading, Ambrose?" Az was careful enough to try not to sneak up on him or anything. She'd come into the compound to try to see if the clothing box would give her any new dresses. The ones she had right now were getting to feel awfully tight these days.

[I'm so taking you up on that slow timed bit.]

As soon as he heard her, Glitch was beaming away, all thoughts of ruined laundry vanishing. "It's about electricity," Glitch said cheerily. "I want to try and adapt O.Z. technology to the bits of Otherside power they have, kind of make a mishmash of the two types. How are you?"

"I'm all right." She hoped up one the washer next to him and tried peeking in the book he was reading. "Do you think there's a way we could make magic here? Maybe not the same kind, and not really magic at all, but... there has to be some sort of scientific way to get closer to it."
