There were old sayings, teachings that Dee had long ago forgotten that she was certain applied to the situation she now found herself. Words of wisdom handed down from the gods themselves about looking for answers and only finding them when the road ahead became blind. The words of the Lords of Kobol always sounded like that and she was certain ( Read more... )

Sacharissa was passing by when she heard the woman speak. Though the word itself was unfamiliar, the tone was readily recognizable, and she stopped in her walk to head over. "Oh dear," she said, "are you alright there?" It didn't look too bad, but all the same, it probably would be better for a bandage or some such.

Pulling her knuckles from her mouth, Dee smiled as she applied pressure to the shallow wounds, dropping the mess of wires into her lap for a moment. "I will be, it's just a little scratch," she explained, taking a quick look at the cut. It was sore, but that was it. "It'll be fine, I just wasn't paying attention. Thank you though for asking."

"Not at all," Sacharissa said. "Better safe and all that. What is this you're working on?" She couldn't entirely help it. Questions were her nature now, and curiosity was impossible to suppress, even if she'd wanted to, and she didn't want to.

"Hopefully it'll be a switch," she explained, holding it up so that the woman can get a better look at it. Simple questions aren't her enemies and never have been, it's deeper ones, ones that pry and dig in places that they shouldn't that don't belong. "For now it's kind of mess."

"Frak," Kara repeated, drawing to a halt just behind Dualla. Calliope began squirming in her arms to be let down the moment they stopped. "I thought you were a professional, Lieutenant."

"I am, Captain," Dee said, stretching out her mildly injured hand, getting herself used to the pain and picking out any dirt that was in it. "Even professionals can make a little mistake."

Calliope ceased her squirming at the sight of blood, and instead pointed at the wound. "Owie," she said gravely.

"Mmhmm," Kara murmured, shifting the toddler higher onto her aching hip. "Ooboo!" Calliope continued, and Kara grinned. "She says you need a bandaid."

Goodnaturedly Dee wiggled her fingers in the direction of Calliope, smiling as she did so. It was so weird to think of Starbuck hanging around with a kid, let alone her own kid. That would just show her that the gods had ideas for them all.

"Owie indeed," she agreed. "Yeah, I probably do. Or I will later. I'll see what it looks like in a few hours."

"Need a hand?" Alec says, his ever-present smirk curving his lips as he crouches down to get a better look at the mess of wires and metal. He's heard all the noise lately about this place getting electricity, something he's excited about despite the fact that he hasn't even been here two months yet. Maybe with electricity, he'll stop feeling like he's stuck in the dark ages.

Maybe.

"Nah, I'm fine," Dee said with a slight shake of her head, gingerly touching her knuckles with her index finger before picking what would hopefully be a circuit again. Looking up she shrugged slightly, half-smiling. "Unless you were talking about the circuits and are now going to tell me you're an electrician as well, then maybe I could use you."

Alec gives a shrug, feigning humility with a duck of his head before it's just as quickly gone. "Might know a thing or two," he says and shifts to take a seat next to her, clearly not bothering to wait for an invitation. "Passed Electronics Systems Maintenance with flying colors back in the day." That'd actually been one of the more useful classes, too, both in and out of Manticore.

The look Dee gave him was doubtful at best, but she wanted to be considerate, to believe in people and things and their ability to not disappoint again and so she slowly nodded. "You're frakking with me aren't you?" she asked rolling her eyes as she smiled slightly. "Well aren't you just the jack of all trades, making the rest of look bad."

It had been a while since Lee had talked to Dee. True, it was harder to find reasons to seek her out after she'd moved out, and even moreso after what had happened with The Master and with Martha.

Finding Dee on the grass, however, meant that he didn't have to come up with some crazy reason to seek her out and talk to her.

"Hey," He asked, coming across her just as her hands slipped, "You alright?"

"Yeah, of course," Dee said with a slight smile looking up at Lee. It was weird, she knew it was and would probably always be. A test of the gods, in the form a man with no memory, but that was just another thing in her life, both the old one and this one.

"I wasn't paying as much attention as I should've been. It's all the sunshine."

Hands settling at his hips for the moment, elbows out, Lee squinted up into the sun. "Yeah, it's kinda weird at first," Lee said, "After being cooped up for so long, you almost forget what it's like. Real sunlight."

He'd been around long enough to be used to it by now, but it had taken a while. Though New Caprica had its fair share of sun, he'd only been down there a couple of times before ending up on the island.

"Yeah, it's not bad though at least once you remember to worry about sunburn," she commented, leaving out the fact that she also had to forget about worrying about danger at every turn.

There had been a lot of give and take in the whole coming around to it, but these days she worried less and less. "It's a lot nicer than New Caprica that's for one."

Sam caught one glimpse of a bruised and hurt knuckle and was already stopping, feeling way too much sympathy to just keep going. He was still smarting from the nose and he felt like he owed it to anyone to stop and at least ask, "Are you okay?" he asked, of the woman he had passed. And then he saw the stuff in her hands. "What is all that?" he asked warily.

"I'm fine, thanks though," Dee said tensing her fingers momentarily, before deciding that it was better to just play through the waning pain. It wasn't life threatening by any means and more of an annoyance. "This will hopefully be a switch. To go with the wiring for the houses."

Sam wandered closer and gave her a curious look. Yeah, he'd heard about that development, but he couldn't believe they were actually at a point where they might realistically have it. "This soon?" he asked, with surprise. "Wow. You guys are good."

"Better than good, at least when we work together," she said with a smile and shrug, having never been the type to brag about her own skills, to flaunt that she wasn't an idiot when it came to avionics and wiring, but gracefully accepting of other people's abilities. "You'll be able to use electricity before you know it."
