"I am, Captain," Dee said, stretching out her mildly injured hand, getting herself used to the pain and picking out any dirt that was in it. "Even professionals can make a little mistake."

Calliope ceased her squirming at the sight of blood, and instead pointed at the wound. "Owie," she said gravely.

"Mmhmm," Kara murmured, shifting the toddler higher onto her aching hip. "Ooboo!" Calliope continued, and Kara grinned. "She says you need a bandaid."

Goodnaturedly Dee wiggled her fingers in the direction of Calliope, smiling as she did so. It was so weird to think of Starbuck hanging around with a kid, let alone her own kid. That would just show her that the gods had ideas for them all.

"Yeah. How is that for strange? They just found a cable in the middle of all of this," Dee said, still sounding half-amazed as she said it out loud, but smiling even though she knew she had to accept it. Smiling at Calliope and Starbuck, she shrugged.
