Tea Party

May 14, 2008 19:56

Sunny was dressed in her prettiest fairy costume for the tea party.

Fancy dress was a rule, and anyone not obeying would hear it from her. Or she'd sic Banky on them. In case anyone didn't have fancy clothes, there was a box of them to borrow right at the front of the party: crowns, top hats, capes, scarves, gloves that went all the way up to your ( Read more... )

Honestly, Charlie had been perfectly happy to help out and have something to occupy her mind after Ianto had gone off with Jack. She sat on the steps of her house with a cup of tea between her bare feet, and glitter from her fairy wings clinging to her cheekbones. She kept smiling, though.

You had to smile.

Charlie was waaaay over by her house, but Sunny was quick and she wouldn't get lost. "Careful, or you'll kick your tea over!" she warned, trying to climb onto the porch without using the steps.

Charlie watched the little girl try to clamber up onto the porch, and carefully steadied her tea between her feet.

"You look so pretty, Sunny," she said, and, for a moment, her smile touched her eyes. "Duck help you with those wings?"

Gideon didn't actually want to be at this thing.

In fact, he had very different fucking plans for the day, but then he had to go and bump into the kid. What came out of was him eventually relenting when she'd been about to fucking bawl, because all he needed was to be the cause of that shit, especially in front of Penny. He had a sneaking suspicion the kid knew he couldn't say no if she did that, because right after he agreed, she went right back to fucking normal. He taught the kid well, apparently.

Either way, he was stuck, and that was how he ended up at the thing, in the only nice pair of clothes he had - fucking three piece shit, gripping one of the wooden cups in his hand awkwardly. He figured if he'd just stick by Penny most of the time and leave early, no one important would see him at this fucking thing.

He didn't even like tea.

Sunny tugged at Gideon's sleeve.

"Is that your giiirlfriend?" she asked, and pointed over to the blond, curly-haired woman he'd come with.

Gideon nearly choked on his tea, looking over as Sunny stared at him expectantly.

"Uh," he said, putting his cup down. It was actually a pretty fucking good question that he had no answer to. He'd learned by now saying that to someone her age just brought about more fucking questions. "Something like that, kid. She wanted to come to. Hope that's not a...big deal, or whatever."

"What's a big deal? Are you gonna get married?" Sunny asked, wondering if her tea party could be a wedding, too!

Kate had thankfully stopped puking for the day and has donned a fake pearl necklace and a pink dress for the occasion. She figures some people probably know what's going on by now but definitely wants to tell Sunny, if she doesn't already know. She takes a seat with her cup of tea and grins. This is beyond cute.

Sunny ran over to Kate and threw herself at the woman's legs. "Fairy ate my cookie," she whined, jumping from foot to foot.

"Oh no!" Kate says, scooping her up to rest on her hip. "I didn't even know that Fairy ate cookies. Do you want me to get you another one?"

Sunny was lifted, squealing. She had drank a lot of tea. "Yes! Fairy eats EVERYTHING. One time she ate a person."

Karen has dressed up as a princess and she's bought a bunch of daisies for Sunny, and ShorHor's got a crown on, and they're looking forward to the party. Karen doesn't really like tea, but there's got to be some juice or something, hasn't there?

Karen sits down, kicking her feet.
She wonders if there's going to be any dancing.

"You look SO PRETTY," Sunny declared when she saw the other little girl. "Is your horse a princess?"

She stood there, astounded.

"He's a boy princess," says Karen, knowledgeably. "And you look pretty too! Here."

She holds out the little bunch of flowers that Shadow helped her get.

"I got you these."

Sunny went from astounding to downright amazed.

"Thanks!" she said, and took the flowers, beaming. "My name's Sunny, what's your name? What's your horse's name? Can I ride him?"

Bush had gleaned that there was to be some sort of children's celebration going on in the Hidden Hamlet and had originally planned to avoid it - much to the protestation of others. But in all honesty, it would likely be better for himself, for the children, and even for the tea if he avoided standing awkwardly around the edges and smiling politely at small children who would probably be gathering there.

Unfortunately, as he came out of his hut he found the party already in full swing.

There would be no getting out of it now.

"Lieutenant Bush," Lucy said, for a moment solemn before a smile crept back over her face. She knew the importance of addressing a sailor properly, though his rank was not a Narnian one. "You're not dressed like a fairy. Would you like a ribbon?"

It was only moments before the girl greeted him. Bush clasped his hands behind his back and raised an eyebrow, glancing suspiciously at the ribbon and then back to her face. It might have been an enemy standard for how he looked at it. "Miss Pevensie, hello. I wasn't aware that I was supposed to, ah, come dressed."

Her smile grew at the way he looked at the ribbon she'd held out to him, pursing her lips for just a moment in order to school her face into more serious features. "Oh, Sunny insisted. Everyone has to be a fairy."
