God has chosen this time, this place, to test us...

...whether we fail or pass the test, is up to us.Standing in a reverent silence, D’Anna wondered how long it took for the consensus to be made, if any of the other models had even a moment’s hesitation before casting his or her vote in deciding the fate of her entire line. The more she thought about it, the less sure she was about actually wanting ( Read more... )

D’Anna stared for what felt like forever before she approached the console, flexing her hand tentatively at her side as she peered down over the data-font and the layer of water over the port interface.

Oh, what the frak, she thought, before slipping her hand into the water, placing her palm down over the dancing lights. She didn’t expect to be instantly connected with any datastream, so she wasn’t terribly disappointed when that didn’t happen, but she kept her hand submerged anyway, instinctively, perhaps, and continued to watch the changing pattern of lights.

She'd heard D'Anna was here, and yet...Six had never expected to see her like this, standing vigilant at a console as if she had never left the Basestar.

Fear washed over her, and her mind filled with doubt. Would D'Anna seek retribution for the act of violence Six had committed against her? "Don't be ridiculous," Gaius said, and shoved her forward into the clearing.

She straightened, tried to look as if she'd stepped into the light on her own. "Hello, D'Anna."

"Caprica," was all she offered as a greeting, the name void of emotion, be it happiness or anger or anything else between the two. It was simply an acknowledgment of her existence.

"Funny thing, I don't remember this being here this morning. Seems a bit out of place, doesn't it? Useless, too." It was really do different than holding a hand in a sink now, no rush of information, no connection. Nothing.

"Things do that here," she replied, stepping closer. The false lights played across the console display in tandem with the sun glinting off the crystal liquid. All of it: illusion. "They appear where there were none before.

"Like people."

Sharon took in the scene with something close to awe. Nostalgia flared up like a spark set alight inside her. A console. A place where they shared information, ideas. God, she hadn't seen one in so long.

She stepped up to the console, and lowered her hand into the water. "I heard you were here," she said, eyes on Three. There was an apology in there. She should have sought out her sister sooner, but things were so much different here. So much more human.

"I suppose word's bound to travel quickly in such a small place," she said, casting her gaze over at her. She hated the discomfort that crept its way in whenever she'd found herself in the presence of her brothers and sisters on the island, even if she hid it extremely well. It was strange, but thus far, D'Anna had felt more comfortable around the Colonials she'd run into. They were, whether they liked to admit it or not, a lot more predictable.

"Why do you suppose this is even here? Other than the obvious of taking up space."

"Oh..." Sharon cast her gaze down at the console. Her uniform, the viper stimulation, they weren't anything compared to this. The console was both a wonderful and a painful reminder. "It happens to nearly everyone. Something shows up from home. There really is no purpose anyone can figure, other than to mess with your head."

"Because just being here doesn't do enough of that on its own?" It did enough and then some. "What's shown up for you, then?"

"So where'd this come from?" Boomer said, surprised by the presence of the console, but not about to have any kind of hope that it meant there was a way off of the island.

Besides, there was no ship, no hybrid, just this. As far as she knew, anyway.

"Same place we did, I imagine. Appeared out of thin air." D'Anna was much more interested in why it was there at all. It had to have a purpose beyond just sitting there.

Boomer wondered the same thing.

"But why here? Why now?" She asked, then approached, reaching one hand out to lightly touch the surface of the console, as if she needed proof that it was actually real.

She hadn't even addressed the fact that this was the first time she'd spoken to D'Anna on the island, despite hearing that her sister was there somewhere.

"I don't know. For reasons greater than you and I, clearly." Not that D'Anna had accepted answers like that in the past, but it seemed appropriate enough. "Perhaps we're meant to discover why on our own." Without their curiosity leading to punishment even.

"Or we could just write it off as the humans seem to do. Just another odd something of other. Blame the island." D'Anna was convinced it's the only way they slept at night. Just writing all of this off as something they'd never be able to understand, rather than figuring it out.

As days and months and years passed, Leoben missed aspects of home less and less. But he always found himself missing the ships so when he saw the console, he knew exactly what it was and all but ran towards it.

It wouldn't work because there was no Hybrid or ship. It wasn't going to do anything, but the lights were there and the water was there. Nothing else was there though. He couldn't connect to anything else especially not anything larger than himself.

The cylon sighed and then did his best to tell him he didn't care as he kept his hands under the water, watching it run through over the lines and calluses on his palms.

D'Anna couldn't help but smirk lightly when Leoben approached. Of all the models she knew to be here, he was the last one she expected to go nostalgic at the sight of the console.

"You know, someone in your situation should be more careful about seeming too excited about things like this." Kara did have that gun of hers, and while she may have spared Leoben the business end, D'Anna wouldn't put the girl past pistol whipping.

Leoben just returned the smirk before snorting. He'd actually just been thinking about how much he wanted to show the device to Calliope, but maybe that would have to wait until the sun was a little less fierce. "Oh? What situation would that be?"

Eventually Thirteen decided to give up chasing birds and join Leoben, but he didn't really pay much attention to Three. The puppy just nudged at Leoben's leg until he had to move his hands away from the console in order to lean down to pet him. "Yeah, great, you made it here," he muttered as the dog licked at his fingers. "Congratulations."

"I'm just not sure your human would be so approving of the look in your eye. The Cylon missing aspects of home." She wiggled her fingers beneath the water, and watched the waves radiate outward.

"You have a dog, too...," D'Anna didn't so much ask, but stated, as it was pretty obvious the puppy belonged to him. A human, a child and a puppy... Not that she had anything against dogs at all. Jake was probably one of the few things she missed from New Caprica once they'd abandoned it.
