God has chosen this time, this place, to test us...

...whether we fail or pass the test, is up to us.Standing in a reverent silence, D’Anna wondered how long it took for the consensus to be made, if any of the other models had even a moment’s hesitation before casting his or her vote in deciding the fate of her entire line. The more she thought about it, the less sure she was about actually wanting ( Read more... )

As days and months and years passed, Leoben missed aspects of home less and less. But he always found himself missing the ships so when he saw the console, he knew exactly what it was and all but ran towards it.

It wouldn't work because there was no Hybrid or ship. It wasn't going to do anything, but the lights were there and the water was there. Nothing else was there though. He couldn't connect to anything else especially not anything larger than himself.

The cylon sighed and then did his best to tell him he didn't care as he kept his hands under the water, watching it run through over the lines and calluses on his palms.

D'Anna couldn't help but smirk lightly when Leoben approached. Of all the models she knew to be here, he was the last one she expected to go nostalgic at the sight of the console.

"You know, someone in your situation should be more careful about seeming too excited about things like this." Kara did have that gun of hers, and while she may have spared Leoben the business end, D'Anna wouldn't put the girl past pistol whipping.

Leoben just returned the smirk before snorting. He'd actually just been thinking about how much he wanted to show the device to Calliope, but maybe that would have to wait until the sun was a little less fierce. "Oh? What situation would that be?"

Eventually Thirteen decided to give up chasing birds and join Leoben, but he didn't really pay much attention to Three. The puppy just nudged at Leoben's leg until he had to move his hands away from the console in order to lean down to pet him. "Yeah, great, you made it here," he muttered as the dog licked at his fingers. "Congratulations."

"I'm just not sure your human would be so approving of the look in your eye. The Cylon missing aspects of home." She wiggled her fingers beneath the water, and watched the waves radiate outward.

"You have a dog, too...," D'Anna didn't so much ask, but stated, as it was pretty obvious the puppy belonged to him. A human, a child and a puppy... Not that she had anything against dogs at all. Jake was probably one of the few things she missed from New Caprica once they'd abandoned it.

"It's not like that," Leoben said with a small frown as he looked up at Three. "She's not like that."

The puppy barked as he glanced up at the woman before moving forward to sniff at the base of the console. The Cylon stood back up and decided to change the subject. "He showed up in January. I named him Thirteen."

"If you insist," D'Anna said, not because she believed him, but simply because she didn't want to argue at that moment. A lot of that had gone on the last few times she stood at one of these, but she doubted that was why it turned up, just so they could continue the trend.

"A family name. How sweet," she teased lightly, looking down at the dog.

Leoben did value Three's opinion, but he could manage just fine without her completely approving of what he did because it was too late for him to be anything else but what he had become. They --Three, Boomer and probably Six-- didn't understand yet and that wasn't completely new even if he didn't like it all that much.

"Yeah," he muttered, picking Thirteen up but not letting him stick his nose into the water. "He's a good dog. Anyway, how are you doing?"

"As well as can be expected, I guess." Which was to say she'd encountered not just one Colonial now, but two, and had managed to walk away from both with all of her limbs attached and no bullet holes. It was quite the feat. "Still a lot of adjusting to be done, but I guess it can only get easier now."

"Takes time," he agreed. It had taken the other Three a really frakking long time anyway. "But yeah... It does get a bit easier after awhile." He tried to keep away from most of the Colonials because he just didn't have much to say to them.

"And how long did it take you?" She doubted that adjustment time was consistent from person to person, but it couldn't hurt to ask. At least she'd have something to compare her own adjustment rate to. Whether that would help or hinder the process was completely up in the air.

Before or after Starbuck brainwashed me? "A long frakking time," he admitted with a sigh. "Over a year, I guess. It's not a perfect place, but there's worse places you could end up."

"Do you miss it?" Boomer asked Leoben, glancing over at him from where her own hand lay on the console, reaching for the data streams that weren't there.

Her tone was flat, voice not louder than it needed to be for her brother to hear her.

"Yeah," he admitted without any real reluctance. "Maybe a little less than I did the first year I was here, but I do miss it."

"Could have fooled me." She said. As far as Boomer had seen, Leoben seemed content playing house with Starbuck.

His eyes narrowed slightly before he sighed. "You know, if you found something here that made you happy and you valued it, I wouldn't resent you for it."

"I wouldn't blame you if you did," Boomer replied. "Depending on what it was."

This Leoben probably hadn't been through New Caprica to see what a spectacular failure humans and cylons coexisting had been.
