As much as he loved having so many people to look after, Leoben thought it was sort of nice to have an afternoon where he didn't have to keep an eye on two kids and a puppy. Multi-tasking wasn't something you could do with a nine month old, a nearly two year old and a dumb albeit lovable husky. Instead, he was just watching Calliope and he was ( Read more... )

"Hello, Calliope," Trance said brightly, seeing the young girl playing with some sort of rings. She didn't recognize the man that was watching her, but John had said that he wasn't her father, so she wasn't surpised seeing another man with her.

She held out a hand to the man.

"Afternoon. I'm Trance. Trance Gemini. I met Calliope and Hera when John was watching them once."

He figured Calliope must have seen the woman before because she did smile at her in a somewhat distracted way as she snatched back the green ring. Once one of his hands was free, he shook Trance's and smiled too. "Hi, I'm Leoben and I'm her father. But John likes to watch the girls a lot. It's nice to meet you."

The cylon had had a hard time with that at first, actually, but he had begun to accept the fact that no one could be with one person every waking hour of the day and it wasn't like John was a stranger. And when you had people that mattered to you or that were a part of your family, you could trust them to do things. Even watch your kid. Besides, Leoben didn't want Calliope to turn out funny because her dad had been really weird about letting her out of his sight growing up.

Trance brightened just a little when she noticed that he didn't seem at all bothered, or even surprised, but the fact that she was purple. Most humans didn't think purple was normal and the reactions usually ranged from staring to poking to a few she didn't want to think about.

"So what are the two of you doing out, today?" she asked, smiling.

Leoben was sort of fond of humans being different colors and maybe other people would have thought it was weird to some degree if only because not everyone was blue or green or purple, but it seemed to suit her.

"I'm learning the right and wrong way to stack things up," he explained as Calliope took back another ring and smiled at both of them.

D'Anna stood quietly, watching from the entrance of the rec room. She recognized the child easily; it was the same one she had seen with Kara the day she had arrived. Calliope, if she recalled correctly.

And she of course recognized the man she was with, though she's heard that there were quite a few others on the island that looked just like him, but weren't him at all. In all honestly, D'Anna hoped that, maybe, this one was one of the others.

Leoben sort of froze when he noticed her until Calliope made a grab for one of the rings in his hands. "Okay, okay, here's your red ring back," he said, letting go of it before eying what was he thought had to have been Three again and managing an uncertain but sincere smile. It was frakking weird to see her, but he had missed her. "Hello."

"Hello," she echoed evenly, more so as means to simply avoid a span of silence than anything else, really. She didn't actually feel as though she owed him any sort of greeting. She wondered if maybe the others had crated him away, too.

Leoben wasn't sure why he was having a hard time coming up with things to say, but then it had been a long time since he'd seen Three or anyone who looked like her.

"It's good to see you," he said, assuming she was his sister. "How long have you been here?"

"Hey, Leoben," Bill greeted with a smile, going to crouch down in front of Calliope. "And hello, Calliope. You keeping your daddy busy?"

"Hey, Bill," Leoben said, not all that surprised when Calliope smiled up at him before going back to her rings. "She sure is," he added before handing her the ones he was holding and taking the blue one when she gave it to him.

"We've been doing this for... oh, at least half an hour now." He didn't really think it was a waste of time though because it made her happy and possibly taught her something. Hopefully it taught her something anyway.

"They do tend to get caught up in the simplest things, don't they," he commented, remembering times with Ron and Ginny especially when they'd been babies. "Did you make these rings for her?"

Leoben nodded his agreement before smiling. "It's good for her at least. And yeah. Took awhile, but there's not a lot of toys around here so I just make them. For her and Hera."

The dog-less rec room didn't stay that way for long. Stephen walked in, clutching the Bible that Jamie had given him and being followed. Not just followed by his new stalker, but by Asher's dog too. Stupid things were suddenly best friends, apparently.

Stephen didn't pay much attention to the man and child as he went across the room to find a seat. The puppy, however, decided she was interested in the colorful rings and went over to sniff and nip at them.

"No, you don't," Leoben said with good humor as he gently nudged the puppy away from the rings. Calliope couldn't stick them in her mouth again if a dog chewed on them. He petted the puppy anyway after letting it sniff his fingers.

The puppy - Chloe, her collar would have everyone know - happily settled for licking the man's hand instead. Stephen glanced over the Book and rolled his eyes.

"Fickle."

Leoben looked over at the man and the Bible, smiling politely before stroking the puppy behind her large ears when she seemed to want more attention.

She probably wasn't fickle so much as she was sort of a baby still and wanted affection. "She's cute. Did you get her in January?"

Curtis watches Leoben and and the baby, what does Newbie call her? Cassiopeia or something? After a moment or two, when he's sure it's them, he finally speaks up.

"Have you talked to Craig lately?" he asks, looking for all that it's worth like he'd rather not. Unfortunately Nathan's berating and therapy won't leave him be.

"Not too long ago," Leoben said, handing the green ring to Calliope and taking the purple one instead. He didn't really ever talk to Curtis though so that was interesting and a little troubling. "Why? Is he okay?"

"As far as I can tell," Curtis says, pacing a moment before sitting down on the couch nearby. "Did he seem okay to you?"

Leoben looked up at Curtis, absently handing Calliope another ring as he tried to figure out what the frak was going on. "He seemed normal. So. What's wrong?"
