Curtis leans against the doorframe, arms crossed, unnoticed by human and cat alike. When Nathan's little pep talk is over, Curtis shoves away from the wall with a smirk.

Curtis stares blankly at Nathan. "Look, I know sometimes I don't give Craig a lot of credit as far as his intelligence is concerned, but he is smarter than a cat."

"I didn't say he wasn't smarter, I said the cat was more reasonable," said Nathan. He didn't mean it of course, and he didn't actually believe the talk accomplished anything, but lecturing the animal at least made him feel better.

It's hard on Newbie's nerves, walking in on these trysts between Muffin and people who are...who...well who aren't Newbie, for starters, and need he really say more?

He pauses for a sigh and a quick regroup, pressing his forehead against the door frame before he points his finger at Nathan and shouts, "Usurper!"

"I wasn't even trying!" Newbie insists, but secretly he's a little pleased to have received such a satisfying jump for his efforts.

"'Course I know what it means." He adopts his speaking posture and continues. "To seize another's place, authority, or possession wrongfully."
