Tosh had spent days preparing for this. Days trying to not think of family at home, rather all that she had here and should be glad for. In the end it had worked, and she and Owen stood smiling at the edge of the pool, Jackson cradled in her arms, gazing out at everyone who'd come ( Read more... )

It wasn't like any Christening that Ray'd ever been to, but Tosh had told him what he needed to do and it was all simple enough. A lot simpler than the acutal job of being godfather to Jackson, which he figured was going to include the occasional feeding and diaper duty in spite of any protests.

Jackson really was a cute kid, and Ray felt protective of him like he felt protective of Tosh. Except, of course, Jackson had never dumped him. The kid was going to need a role model who taught him about something other than science, though, that was for sure.

"Thank you," she said after the ceremony, her smile wide. "For agreeing to this."

Abby and Ianto she'd been fairly sure they'd say yes, Ray she hadn't been quite so positive about. She was glad that he had.

"You really think I was gonna say no?" said Ray. "Of course I wasn't gonna say no." It was a serious commitment, sure, but you just didn't say no when someone you cared about asked you to look out for their kid.

"I wasn't sure," She said honestly. She felt more comfortable being honest with him at least. Now. "You'll have to balance out Abby, I'm sure. Make sure he doesn't come home with tattoos."

The naming ceremony, while unfamiliar, had been lovely, and Remus had been honoured to attend along with Tonks and Teddy. The little family stayed afterward, Remus holding Teddy, and waited to give Tosh their well wishes whilst mingling with the others in attendance.

[Pls to be saying in your comment whether you want Remus, Tonks, or both :)]

"Just think," Tonks said, slipping an arm around Remus' waist and kissing Teddy's forehead, "they'll probably grow up together and be best friends. I'm glad there will be so many children Teddy's age."

"So am I," Remus replied, wrapping his free arm around Tonks and giving a soft chuckle. "They'll grow up to terrorise us all one day, I'm sure."

"It's kind of weird that he'll grow up not really knowing about magic," Tonks added, looking down at Teddy, who yawned, his face scrunching up.

Veronica had been pleasantly surprised to receive the invitation in her box, even flattered. Enough goes wrong in this place that it can't hurt, once in a while, to have reminders of the good things in life. She liked Tosh, and Jackson was an adorable baby. She'd dress nicely, if simply, and joined the others with a small smile, watching the little paper boat float away. It was a good kind of a day.

Tosh had smiled when she'd caught sight of Veronica in the crowd, eventually finding her way to the other woman eventually. "So many people! I hadn't actually expected... Thank you for coming."

"What, and miss the social event of the season?" Veronica deadpanned, grinning as she turned toward Tosh. "I'm not crazy, I know where the party is." Her expression softened briefly as she nodded. "Jackson looks... adorable."

"Hardly," Tosh looked amused at the very suggestion. "He is. He's being very well behaved. I fear for later."

Peter had watched the ceremony with great interest, glad to have been invited. While the traditions obviously seemed to be aligned with Tosh's cultural heritage, Peter could appreciate the goings-on all the same.

When it was all said and done, he stood unobtrusively to the side, happy for Tosh and her baby. It wouldn't be long before he himself was a parent. Watching Tosh with her child, Peter could do nothing but smile.

"Peter," Tosh smiled at him, switching Jackson from one side to the other, a bit of kimono in his mouth. "This'll be you soon enough, won't it?"

"Hello, Tosh," Peter greeted, his smile broadening when he noticed just what the baby had placed in his mouth. "Pretty soon." Running a hand through his hair, Peter laughed a little self-consciously. "When you first find out you're going to have a baby, nine months seems like such a long time. But it's just flown by. I can hardly believe it."

"That's exactly what it's like. Only some days seem to take forever, and others..." Tosh laughed, extricating fabric from Jackson's mouth and replacing it with her finger. "It doesn't stop. It's been a month, and I can't believe it, and other times... You'll both do wonderfully I'm sure."

He'd never seen anything quite like it and that it was Toshiko and Owen and Jackson meant all that much more. He wasn't quite sure how or when, but they'd become family to him, as much as Sam or Teal'c or Jack.

When the ceremony was over, he looked around for people he knew.
