Tosh had spent days preparing for this. Days trying to not think of family at home, rather all that she had here and should be glad for. In the end it had worked, and she and Owen stood smiling at the edge of the pool, Jackson cradled in her arms, gazing out at everyone who'd come ( Read more... )

Jackson had a fistful of hair in his hand, and Tosh smiled, doing her best to extricate it from his grip. She looked up when she managed it, smiling at everyone who was there. It was good to see her friends together like this. It made her miss her family less.

"Hello again, mate," said Adam, reaching up to touch the top of Jackson's head with the palm of his hand. "That was beautiful, really."

He smiled at Tosh.

"Hope you don't mind me crashing? I think I'm an official date."

She'd seen him with Angela, and her eyes strayed in that direction when he mentioned the word date. "Official date? Really?"

"Apparently," said Adam, with an easy grin. "It's a pleasure to be here. He's being good, isn't he?"

Ace waited with the other people, until she got a moment to hug Tosh. It'd been beautiful, and Jackson was... well.

Ace'd always loved children. She hadn't quite dressed up, but she was in a simple skirt and kind of dressy tank top, the heavy fall of her hair nearly to her waist. She didn't really want to interrupt, but a small smile played on her lips as she watched.

It would never be interrupting, not today and certainly not Ace. Tosh's smile grew when she saw her friend, tugging yet another piece of hair from Jackson's grasp. "He's being a horror," she spoke affectionately as she leaned in to kiss Ace on the cheek. "A complete horror."

"Oh, a complete horror," Ace laughed as she bent to kiss Jackson's head, and then Tosh's cheek. "He's just giving Mum a bit of a hard time because that's his job."

She half-hugged Tosh, and sighed. "It was beautiful. All of it, really."

"It is his job, and he's embraced it fully," Tosh smiled, knowing he gaven Owen just as much trouble. "Thank you. I wasn't sure what to do here, but I wanted to do something."

It was a beautiful little ceremony. Even though it was supposed to be for Jackson, in a way, Angela was just really happy for Tosh. She looked so pleased, so loved, like she found a place. It was such a contrast to the woman she had met nearly a year ago. True, she still found Tosh in the lab at all hours, peering at a laptop, but she had a family. Friends. She balanced.

Angela stayed to the side, not one of the family and not really one of the closest friends, but wishing well for them all the same.

If anyone had told Tosh a year ago this would all happen, she would have told them they were mad, and suspected they were playing some sort of trick on her. Now that she was here, that this was her life... Tosh couldn't picture going back to where she'd been then.

"Thank you for coming," She smiled at Angela, glad some of the people she knew from about the lab, her other home, were here.

"Of course," Angela said warmly, giving the other woman a broad smile. "I wouldn't miss it. Even for another dinosaur attack."

She finished her light words with a brighter grin, then looked down at the little boy. "God, he's beautiful, Tosh."

"I think the dinosaurs have sense to not attack today. I think Jack would be utterly unmerciful if they had," Tosh responded with a light smile.

"He takes after his father, I'm sure of it," Though there was no doubting that Jackson was hers. He did have that Japanese look about him, just softened. "Would you like to hold him?"

Chase really was starting to try and pinpoint the exact moment that his life had become more about babies and marriage then it had about disease and death. He supposed it'd come when in two years, the death rate was still maybe (maybe) a percent of the population.

So he'd dressed decently and made his way to act like a good boy and observe.

"Rob," Tosh smiled up at him, shifting Jackson in her arms. Her eyes danced, she was clearly enjoying herself. "I know I didn't say in the ceremony, but I've a duty for you as well."

Chase wasn't sure about this, but he doubted that Tosh would ever spring a bad surprise on him, so he very patiently nodded and gave her a curious look. "Just, not teaching him how to dress," he said lightly. "Apparently, I'm not good at that."

"Marmite. If you don't introduce it to him, no one will," Tosh grinned, hoping he'd take it well. "So you can't stop making it."

Ianto had tucked the little scroll away into the breast pocket of his jacket once the ceremony was over, close to his heart for safe keeping. It was a bit hot in a suit, but he didn't show it. It was the only thing proper he could think of wearing for the ceremony.

It was still more than a little unbelievable to him. Jackson Sato-Harper. His godson. Once, maybe, he thought he'd get a chance like this. Hell, once he might have even thought of having his own child. Those thoughts seemed like mere dreams now, and just the reality of what he had now was miracle enough to be thankful for without wishing for more.

"How are you holding up under the weight of responsibility?" Tosh had come up to him from behind, standing at his side and smiling. "Do you think you'll manage?"

"Rather well, I think," Ianto replied with a smile. "I figure if I can get through today, everything else should be a breeze, right?"

"It should," Tosh shifted Jackson in her arms, "I was so afraid something would go wrong."
