Jackson had a fistful of hair in his hand, and Tosh smiled, doing her best to extricate it from his grip. She looked up when she managed it, smiling at everyone who was there. It was good to see her friends together like this. It made her miss her family less.

"Hello again, mate," said Adam, reaching up to touch the top of Jackson's head with the palm of his hand. "That was beautiful, really."

He smiled at Tosh.

"Hope you don't mind me crashing? I think I'm an official date."

She'd seen him with Angela, and her eyes strayed in that direction when he mentioned the word date. "Official date? Really?"

"Apparently," said Adam, with an easy grin. "It's a pleasure to be here. He's being good, isn't he?"

"He is. I almost dread what he'll be like tonight," She said lightly, not truly dreading anything of the sort.

"He'll be knackered, won't you, mate?" said Adam. His face changed when he was talking to the child, something softer around his eyes.

"I can hope," She did hope sort of. It had been a long day for them all. "So, Angela?" She couldn't stop herself from asking.

"Angela," said Adam, his tone non-commital, though he did give her a little smile. "Wouldn't have been right for her to come on her own, right?"

Tosh made a note to ask Angela about it. "Of course not. Not if there's someone to come with her."

"Well, yes." Adam's smile grew a little bit, and hishand ghosted over Jackson's head again. "So now he's all grown up?"

"All grown up," she shook her head, pulling her lip between her teeth as she gazed at him for a long moment. "Nowhere near yet."

"You've got time yet," said Adam, his smile genuinely warm, his head ducked a little so that he didn't tower over her quite so much.

He couldn't help but think about Wes, but he didn't stop smiling.

"I know. It already seems like it's gone so fast and it's only been a month," Jackson had a firm grip on the edge of her kimono, feeling it into his mouth.

"You're going to ruin your mom's dress, mate," said Adam, still smiling. "You need a dummy or something."

"He has some. I forgot them," she admitted, embarrassed. "There were too many things to remember."

"He'll cope. He's a little tough guy. I can tell." Adam winked at Tosh. "Relax, sweetheart. Enjoy your day."
