There was a Colonial tent in New Atlantis.

Sharon was immediately certain it was meant for her. No one else in NA was from the Colonies, if she could even be counted as such. Although she was sure the tent was a gift to her, it was Hera who ran off to explore it first, disappearing inside.

"Hera," Sharon called, scolding, because who knew what ( Read more... )

Having left Calliope with Newbie for an hour or two, Kara had nothing in her bag but a bottle. She didn't really intend to drink from it, but it helped somehow, just knowing it was there.

If she'd have known what would be greeting her outside Sharon's hut, however, she might not have brought it at all. "Sharon?" she called, staring up at the Colonial crest with a mixture of longing and apprehension. "The frak?"

Sharon peeked out the tent at the sound of Kara's voice, and smiled. "Get in here, you won't believe it," she said, and disappeared back inside.

Kara blinked at the space where Sharon had just been, but shook herself and pulled back the tent flap to go inside. It was dark, but when her eyes began to adjust she gasped outloud. "Frak me." It was a Sim, it was a Sim of Mark VII. "Gods, it's been a long time since I've seen one of these."

"I know," Sharon said, though to be honest the look on Kara's face was more gratifying than the Sim. "I've never actually been in one, but it was sent to me anyway. I've missed flying."

Now this was a pleasant sight. Whatever it was. Anyway, it was probably something Sharon and Starbuck would both like. He ran his hands along the edge of it as he walked over to Hera and Sharon, Thirteen trailing behind him and sniffing at the small ship once he'd moved into the tent too.

"Does it really fly?" Leoben asked.

Sharon turned toward Leoben and greeted him with a smile. "It's a flight simulator," she said, sounding almost excited. "I have memories of it, but I've never personally been in one."

Thirteen bounded over to Hera and Leoben rolled his eyes before glancing back at the Viper. Well, that explained why it looked familiar and yet not quite right. "That's pretty amazing. Possibly better than a dog." Although he did like his dog.

Hera had gotten used to the dog and greeted him with a happy squeal, immediately trying to sit on him.

"I guess the island figures Hera keeps me busy enough," she mused, running a hand along the side of the Sim.

"Do you want to try it?"

Kendra had run past New Atlantis a couple of times, and on none of those had she noted a Colonial tent. She would have. Part of her was always watching out for things from home. Something familiar in this frakked up place.

If only it was the only familiar thing. Still, she wasn't about to back down. She strode in the direction of the tent, her back, as usual, as straight as if there was a metal bar along her spine.

"That wasn't here before," she said.

The voice jolted Sharon from her thoughts. She listened to Kendra's approach and finally turned, moving into the tent's opening.

"It just showed up," she said, her gaze steady on the other woman.

Kendra met it evenly for a long moment, just to show she could, and then turned her eyes back to the tent.

"It just ... turned up," she said, as if examining the words for flaws. The thing was, there really weren't any. "Like us, I suppose."

Somehow that was enough, and Sharon relaxed a little.

She gave a nod. "It happened last year, January. Gifts showed up for people, this one's mine," she explained. And as if to illustrate how long Sharon had actually been here, Hera stopped trying to scale the side of the Sim and came over to Kendra to stare up at her.

Lee didn't normally go by New Atlantis. Yes, he knew it existed, and he was pretty sure that Sharon lived there, but he'd never really had a reason to go by. But lately, even with joining the IPD, he found that he didn't have much else to do besides explore the island, and today he'd finally ended up at the small settlement.

However, he didn't expect to find what he found, and when he spotted the Colonial tent, raised both eyebrows curiously.

Where the frak had that come from?

Sharon turned when she heard someone approach, and took a step out of the tent. Her own eyebrows rose when she saw who it was.

"Lee," she said. It was almost like the tent summoned him from the depths of the island.

Lee didn't think of it as being summoned, but it was a little strange that he'd come across Sharon just then.

"Where'd you get a Colonial tent?" Lee asked her. He'd heard from Major Shaw that she'd ended up with a uniform, but the tent was a surprise.

"I don't know, the island, maybe. Last year gifts appeared during January, so I guess this one's mine for the new year," Sharon explained, and turned around.

"I didn't just get a tent, though," she added, disappearing inside, expecting him to follow.

Teyla looked curiosly at the machine in the middle of New Atlantis. The shape reminded her of a wraith dart more than anything else, and for a moment she had worried seeing Sharon and Hera outside of it. When she realised the marking were nothing she knew and that Sharon looked pleased with it, she relaxed.

"Is it a ship from your world?"

Sharon turned and smiled to Teyla. "Oh, yeah. It's not one of my people's," she made sure to add. "But I'm familiar with them anyway." It was...hard to explain, she realized.

Hera babbled something toddlerish to Teyla which probably meant hello.

"Does it fly?" Teyla crouched down to Hera's level with a smile, and could only think that if it did fly that John would be happier than he had been in a very long time.

Hera raised her arms to be picked up. "Uppy," she said, to make herself just that much more clear.

"No, it's a Sim. Ah, a flight simulator. Do they have any in Atlantis?" Sharon asked, before going into an explanation.
