Jane had been a Mama for some eleven days now and yet the wonder and the joy had not disappeared in the very least. Oh! How she could gaze upon her daughter's eyes and not speak a word and yet find perfect content. Today, she was taking Lydia upon her second ever walk in the name of a very good cause; that of suitable clothing.
She would not, of course, release Lydia from the blanketed bundle in Jane's arms that she was, for she was protective yet and the slightest things made her wary of her surroundings. Quite rationally, she was sure that the Island was safe, but perhaps motherhood had made her more cautious, especially when her daughter was so tiny yet.
Slowly, Jane was regaining her form as well. It was, perhaps, slower than she might have expected, but she could slowly return to her old clothes and her corsets without harming her child. Today, she wore her very favourite pale off-white muslin dress and a corset and held Lydia to her in a swath of pink blankets as they both peered into the box for rather miniature clothing that would aid in clothing the little one.
"Perhaps," Jane remarked, leaning on her tiptoes to gain a rather wider view of the box, "Just perhaps we might find you something beautiful yet, darling," she promised.
