Wicked Rehearsal!

Oct 10, 2007 12:59

Mimi had known that directing a musical would be a lot of work, but she really hadn't known how much work--and stress--it would really be. She's having a great time, but things are going slower than she'd thought it would, most people still haven't memorized all their lines, and blocking was a nightmare ( Read more... )

After she was done Anya was more then happy to sit and watch everyone else continuing. She liked her role. Not too big, but key. Sort of how she thought of her role in life. Though she still didn't have a breakaway pop hit.

Mimi looked over as Anya sat down nearby, offering her a small smile. "Good job," she said quietly, not wanting to interrupt the other actors still on stage.

"Thank you," She responded just as quietly, watching the scene on the stage play out. "It's going so well."

Mimi nodded, although she wasn't entirely convinced they were where they should be, at this point. Still, "Everyone's working so hard. It's great. It'll really be something to be proud of." Eventually. Hopefully.

There were things Glinda was unsure about. Playing one of her own friends, who'd mocked Elphie and really Not Been Nice People, even at the core, bothered her more then she wanted to admit.

But she did it, and she did it as best she could.

After rehearsal she grabbed her sketches of costumes she'd put together. Less then a month and so much work to do!

"How's it coming?" Eden asked, wandering over toward Glinda to glance at the sketches. She tilted her head to the side, curious, her arms behind her back, hands clasped together.

Glinda smiled, it only took a moment for it to become real, for her to remind herself (again) that Eden wasn't really Nessa.

"Slowly. THere's more work to do than I thought."

"And I bet the clothes box still isn't really cooperating," Eden said wryly, an eyebrow arching. Her expression relaxed and she smiled at Glinda. "It's gonna look awesome, though."

Daniel was all set to walk past the stage, except that he heard a familiar voice ordering people around. Sitting in the back so that the people on stage wouldn't get nervous, he watched them practice, standing up and walking to the stage when they were done.

"Well done," he said, clapping a little, a broad smile on his face. "Very well done."

Mimi looked up and grinned. "Hey, thanks." She got to her feet and dismissed the actors. "Thanks guys. See you tomorrow, if you can make it." Then she turned to Daniel again. "So really. What'd you think?" she asked with a wry little smile. There'd been some bumps and stops and starts, but they'd made it all the way through the act, at least.

Daniel chuckled. "I'm not the best judge. I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. But I definitely liked it. Jack's in it, too, huh? And I think I saw Teyla, right?" Those were really the only people he'd recognized.

Mimi giggled. "I wasn't asking you to sing, honey. You can still enjoy music, can't you?" She winked, nudging him with her shoulder. "Yep, they're both in it. You're gonna come see the performance, right?"

No matter how many times Eden went over her scenes, she faltered during her first scene. It wasn't Elphaba's fault that her presence on the stage threw Eden off, but that remained the case all the time. Playing the sister of someone who was not only on the island, but in the scene was just disconcerting. It was impossible to avoid feeling that she had to be doing something wrong - she wasn't, after all, really the woman in question. Still she pushed on, and the further they got into the play, the easier it became to throw off her nerves and let herself be Nessarose for a while - Nessarose as she saw her.

"No, it's me that's not right," she said, forcing a small smile as she came to the end of her last scene of the act. "Elphaba, just go, I'll be fine." Leaving the stage, she descended to sit in front of it and watch the rest of the act unfold. She'd just keep working at it, that was all. She would get there.

Sandy felt similarly. It was such a big responsibility, taking on a role in a musical production of people's lives. While stage fright wasn't an issue he just felt such an overwhelming need to be true to Elphaba's, Glinda's and Fiyero's story. He wanted to make them proud.

After they were done Sandy went out of his way to find Eden and join her. "It's really coming along, isn't it?" he smiled. Still unaccustomed to the disconnect between off stage and on, he always felt he should be extra nice to her after having to look into her big brown eyes and pretend not to like them all that much.

"It really is," Eden agreed, the words punctuated by a little sigh. It was hard for her to be sure how she even felt, really, to put it into words that made sense; it all came together in an amalgam of pride and worry and excitement, a kind of melancholy longing mixed with glee. It was all coming along - all happening, as Penny said -, but that also meant they weren't all that far from the finish line. What she would do after the play, she didn't yet really know.

She turned her head to smile back at Sandy. "I can't believe we're almost there, you know?" He was a sweet guy, so genuine and earnest she couldn't imagine anyone not liking him. With how much he put into Boq, it was impossible not to respond accordingly, letting Nessa take over when they worked together.

"Me neither," Sandy admitted, script rolled up and tucked into his pocket. "I have to admit, it's really daunting understudying Fiyero's part because, well, because he's right there doing it so well," he laughed a little, glancing over to where Fiyero stood.

"It's been a while since I've had this much fun during the off season," he tried to slip his hands into his pockets and then, when he remembered that one was already full, scratched those fingers through his shaggy hair. "...sooo if you ever wanted to practice one-on-one, I'm easy to find," he just decided to throw out there.

Evey had been at nearly every practice Mimi had had, and really felt as if she was finally getting things a little bit correct in terms of the choreography. Now she only had two left feet half the time rather than all the time.

Still, when the rehearsal was over, she was glad. It was tiring, and she still wasn't remembering all of Nessarose's lines correctly. She didn't think she'd really need to know them since Eden was doing so well, but she still needed to know the lines.

She sat down under a shady tree and opened her copy of the libretto again. "I can't harbor a fugitive, I'm an un-elected official!"

Mimi smiled as she walked by Evey, watching her go over lines even though rehearsal was done. "That's what I like to see. Dedication," she teased, leaning against the tree and looking over Evey's shoulder.

Evey looked up at Mimi and smiled. "Well, considering my difficulties with the choreography, I ought to try to be good at something. I can memorize things, even if I can't manage not to trip over my own feet."

"Oh, I don't know about that, honey. You're getting better every day," Mimi said encouragingly. And it was true, although she hoped there was still more improvement before the performance. "But it's always good to know the understudies are taking things seriously." Especially on the island, where half the cast could randomly disappear one morning, for all she knew.
