Do you call them Doctors Chase or Doctors Doctor?

Aug 30, 2007 17:45

There was a hastily written note tacked to the bulletin board in rounded letters:

Congratulations to Dr. Rob Chase and The Doctor!Because they were great prats and didn't invite anyone to their wedding, there will be a wedding party for them this evening, the 30th of August at The Hub. Friends and acquaintances invited. Presents welcomed, but not ( Read more... )

He might have scowled at the language of the note any other day, but he was still in a surprisingly good mood when he got to the Hub (dressed in a somewhat shiny black suit jacket and beige button-down and pair of jeans). But as it was, he just laughed at Bridget being Bridget and made a note to thank her a lot for the thought of putting something like this together.

Normally, he hated parties. But then, normally he hated the idea of committing to one person. So he'd been proved wrong more than once in the past little while.

With a drink in hand, he adjusted his jacket and took a deep breath. He could do a party. Easily. After all, there was liquor. And possibly later, karaoke.

Marian felt odd having no true gift, but she felt she should go and wish Rob well. In support of their fledgling frienship if nothing else.

Smiling somewhat nervously she approached him, a few small coins she had brought to the island on her person wrapped in a piece of lether. "It's a silly gift, I realize, but it is all I could manage." perhaps the smith could fashion something of the silver bits.

Chase gave Marian a surprised look when she approached, putting down his drink on the bar counter and taking them into his hands. "You really didn't need to get us anything," he pointed out.

"It would have been rude to not give you something to commemorate this, to mark this change in your lives. Do people of your time not give gifts?" She wondered if she had erred.

Well, it wasn't as if she could not go, given who the Doctor was to her and how she knew. She'd asked to be there, but apparently the big jerk had gone off and done it without her. Damn the man, anyway.

She had fully moved out of the Treehouse now, which bode well for her. Of course, now she was still feeling a guest in someone else's home and needed that feeling to subside.

And until then, she had a short-story in hand of The Man Who Never Told His Friends Anything and was searching for a drink.

"Oi." Ace's voice was quiet, and she held out a cup to Sarah Jane, having one for herself. "This what you're looking for?"

She was still in the treehouse, but just until one that she liked opened up, since she'd talked to Jack.

.... Which she'd not actually told anyone yet.

Sarah Jane turned to wrap both her hands around the drink, giving a 'ahh' of great happiness. "Yes, that is exactly what I need," Sarah Jane agreed, with something of a smile.

Key amongst the evening's goals were ignoring that back home, she had a son now, only a few years younger than Ace.

That required a good shot of the drink. "So how are you, Ace? I've not seen you in some time." Busy, of course. Always busy, even in 'paradise'.

She thought for a moment, and tried to figure out what to say that would fit the occasion. "... Good. Out of the loop, obviously. Getting pissed." She pressed her lips together. "Assuming you didn't get the memo, either?"

She shook her head slightly.

Tosh stood behind te bar making sure there were enough drinks to cover the party. She wasn't drinking and she knew she should likely relax and enjoy herself, but it was a hard habit to break. Keeping an eye out for the Doctor and Chase she sang along to the 80's song playing on the karaoke machine. It should be a good night.

Chase approached, just to slide up and grin his very cutest grin. "Hiya," he offered, charming as could be (and just a mite tipsy) as he slid into a stool. "So, thank you for doing this and also, how do I work the karaoke machine?"

He did seem drunk, but he was cute and this was his party. "Congratulations," Tosh slid a drink over to him, grinning. "you know I don't mind. As for the machine, I can show you."

Chase took the drink with something of a wide grin, definitely just happy. "Yeah, so I guess the news got around," he admitted ruefully. "Which was supposed to be quiet."

Though she still felt all rounded and swollen, she could not miss such a party for the world, though she did feel quietly and inexplicably betrayed at the notion that the Doctor would marry without so much as telling her. Perhaps she did not warrant being told.

But she could not help but wish she had been.

Even so, she had arrived with contributions of food, setting two pies upon the table and keeping a cake (frosted with the sweetest of icing she could make) in hand to present to the Doctor.

"Quite bright of you to bring food as a present," Mrs. Bennet commented. "I tried and tried to think what to give two gentlemen, but I had understood that their household is well established. I am happy that I came, though, if only to see you in your element."

Even greatly with child, Jane always stood out at a party. Mrs. Bennet would inform any one who asked! "Perhaps they might like a quilt, for there is such a wealth of fabric here. And one has time to present a gift, of course."

Jane offered quite a sweet smile, though it was flushed with modesty and her cheeks tinged with pink. "I do know that Doctor Chase enjoys his sweets and well, the Doctor as well." She was still quite studious not to mention him as her adopted Papa, not around her dearest Mama.

"Ooh, yes. And the gift matches their tempers perfectly, for they have both been very kind to me!" Mrs. Bennet was a tiny bit concerned about her appearance, as she had not time to look in the clothes box for anything festive to wear. "Do I look all right, dearest Jane? I have been spending so much time settling into the new house and meeting my new neighbors that I fear my appearance has suffered."

So, wedding party. Addison hadn't been to one of those since...well, since a very long time ago. But she was invited (she knew half the marriage, she stitched up the other half) and she was there. She was there and enjoying herself and looking good in pale blue.

So there was that, at least.

Jamie himself was wearing a navy blue suit complete with open white dress shirt. It goes extremely well with my crutches, thanks for asking.

"You look beautiful," he murmured in Addison's ear as he passed her from behind and eventually crutched his way in front of her. "I'd do the manly thing and get us drinks, but, uh, y'know..."

"You're not looking so bad yourself," she advised in return, with a grin, patting his shoulder. "Here, you stay put, I'll do the manly thing and get us the drinks. Just don't start reminding people about it."

She made her way to the bar, leaning over to fetch two fruit-somethings, bringing them back. "Here's to barely knowing patients and still getting invited," she toasted.

"Which one was your patient?" he asked before taking a sip. "I mean, I sort of know the Doctor. From here and from television." He laughed and took a tentative sip. "Hey, this is actually pretty good. No furniture smoothie tonight!"
