It was a morning, just as any other on the Island. At least for Kaylee it was the same. Waking early-ish, as it was sometime after the sun had fully risen and was promising a delightful day. It wasn't yet too hot and the breeze was something without that unbearable humidity, refreshing and cool, barely to be felt at that! After getting dressed and ( Read more... )

"Hey, Kaylee!" Jayne was pretty gorram excited about this age-switching stuff. OK, sure, the Cap'n might be having some problems, but Jayne was 18 again and he was liking it. It was much more fun than being a girl.

The odd things this Island did in all it's bizarre wisdom, Kaylee had decided there was no predicting it, and to do so would only cause you grief. Kaylee heard a voice behind her, familiar mostly turning to see somewhat of a stranger? She paused; tall as a house, awful familiar clothes and resembling..

"Jayne?" Kaylee squeaked, giving a gape of disbelieve, though she was smiling for the most part. "You done been reversed-like! Lookit you!" He couldn't be any older than her now she supposed, how odd was that! "How's it feel? You don't feel no different do you? Don't make y'think different 'cause you remembered me fine!"

"Nah, it ain't changed my brains none, but hell, I feel great! Been damn near twenty years since I felt like this." Jayne was practically bouncing with excess energy. "I wanna find me a girl and get howlin' drunk and have myself a time. I mean, I always kinda feel like that, but now more n' usual."

Oh this did make Kaylee laugh, after all seeing Jayne so energetic and what she supposed was close to actually being visibly bouncy wasn't something she was used to seeing.

At his decision on how to spend all this excess energy, Kaylee gave a knowing grin. "Oh good fer you Jayne!" Her tone admiring; as though getting completely drunk beyond all reason and sleeping with random folk was a positive lifestyle goal that ought to be rewarded. Then again this was Kaylee.

"O'course, you ain't gonna have a lick'o trouble lookin' so handsome!" She marveled. He appeared to be on such a high, she ought to encourage it! After all Jayne being all keen n'eager about something that didn't involve weaponry was a plus in the mechanic's books. "Though y'better act like more a gentlemen, huh? Girls here ain't the same like back home here y'know!" she chided, still with a broad grin.

He spotted Kaylee easily enough, as she looked exactly like herself, and she had a basket full of fruit. Wilson remembered Simon telling him how much Kaylee liked fresh fruit, in between insisting she wasn't his type. And now she was the only person from Simon's world that Wilson could rationally think he might be on speaking terms with. That meant enough to him to spur his approach as he saw her on the path. At least Wilson looked close to normal, though almost 20 years younger. Actually, they might be close to the same age now. He figured he was about 23. Skinnier, and paler, but otherwise he still looked like himself.

"Good to see you again, Kaylee," he began. "I can show you where the strawberries grow, near the compound, if you'd like." And he hoped he didn't sound too eager to make friends. At least his voice didn't crack.

She'd planned her little breakfast, having picked out each fruit accordingly and even being careful to even out colour ratios. Little constructive things to take her time not spent in the engine room up, without her left feeling completely uncreative ( ... )

Kaylee had such a nice smile. "You can call me James if you want," he offered, though he wasn't sure why. Being called 'doctor' here always made him feel strange, though he did practice medicine. It simply wasn't the be all and end all of his life any more.

"The strawberry patch isn't far, and if we can find some ripe ones, there's nothing better than a fresh berry." He nudged his head to the right to indicate where they were going. "I can carry that for you," he offered. Even though Kaylee worked with her hands, she was still a woman, and women liked to have things done for them every now and again.

"No, I'm pretty much myself, just younger. I've sort of... always been like this. Only my hair changes, and this cut would make me 22 or so. It's not bad, really. One of my friends turned into a kid, and I found him talking to birds, so I have no room to complain. I'm just wondering how I ever managed to get a date when I was young and skinny."

It was a formality Kaylee was quick to use, simply because she really did respect work like that, and any form of it. The doctors here though the clinic wasn't quite what they were all used to, were as good as any, in fact they were better as to what Kaylee had back home. "Sure thing" She said, acknowledging his words with a grin ( ... )

Outspan is on his way to the compound when he spots a girl in a breezy floral dress a little ways ahead of him on the path. He walks a little faster to catch up with her, feeling in the mood for some pleasant conversation.

"Howaya, miss," he greets her when he draws even with her.

Even on terribly important missions such as this, Kaylee was quite partial to a chat! The trek to the compound was a decent one, and rarely did anyone seem to offer company on such walks, Kaylee wouldn't want to put them out of their way either, however nice it would have been. Thus as another caught up beside her offering a friendly greeting, she slowed her pace down some, clearly in no need to appear in much of a hurry at all.

"Hiya!" She replied at once, smile bright as she looked to the fellow. "M'Doin' just fine thanks, headed t'rustle up some breakfast. How 'bout y'self? If y'even need an excuse on such a mornin'"

"I'm alrigh'. Just headed to the compound for a bit o'tea," he responds, a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. He doesn't recognize her accent, but it has a familiarity, a friendliness that he likes.

The fellow's voice had something about her that reminded her of Badger's way of talking, his accent. Not the same so much, but a hint perhaps?

"Tea, huh? Can't say I ever inspected th'kinds of tea they got here. Is there a lotta choice t'be spoilt fer?" She asked, with rather a genuine curiosity, it was mostly bad synthetic coffee they'd had on Serenity back home. Inara had tea in her shuttle, but that was her special tea.

"I'm Kaylee." She added quickly as though remembering rather suddenly.
