It was a morning, just as any other on the Island. At least for Kaylee it was the same. Waking early-ish, as it was sometime after the sun had fully risen and was promising a delightful day. It wasn't yet too hot and the breeze was something without that unbearable humidity, refreshing and cool, barely to be felt at that! After getting dressed and ( Read more... )

"Hey, Kaylee!" Jayne was pretty gorram excited about this age-switching stuff. OK, sure, the Cap'n might be having some problems, but Jayne was 18 again and he was liking it. It was much more fun than being a girl.

The odd things this Island did in all it's bizarre wisdom, Kaylee had decided there was no predicting it, and to do so would only cause you grief. Kaylee heard a voice behind her, familiar mostly turning to see somewhat of a stranger? She paused; tall as a house, awful familiar clothes and resembling..

"Jayne?" Kaylee squeaked, giving a gape of disbelieve, though she was smiling for the most part. "You done been reversed-like! Lookit you!" He couldn't be any older than her now she supposed, how odd was that! "How's it feel? You don't feel no different do you? Don't make y'think different 'cause you remembered me fine!"

"Nah, it ain't changed my brains none, but hell, I feel great! Been damn near twenty years since I felt like this." Jayne was practically bouncing with excess energy. "I wanna find me a girl and get howlin' drunk and have myself a time. I mean, I always kinda feel like that, but now more n' usual."

Oh this did make Kaylee laugh, after all seeing Jayne so energetic and what she supposed was close to actually being visibly bouncy wasn't something she was used to seeing.

At his decision on how to spend all this excess energy, Kaylee gave a knowing grin. "Oh good fer you Jayne!" Her tone admiring; as though getting completely drunk beyond all reason and sleeping with random folk was a positive lifestyle goal that ought to be rewarded. Then again this was Kaylee.

"O'course, you ain't gonna have a lick'o trouble lookin' so handsome!" She marveled. He appeared to be on such a high, she ought to encourage it! After all Jayne being all keen n'eager about something that didn't involve weaponry was a plus in the mechanic's books. "Though y'better act like more a gentlemen, huh? Girls here ain't the same like back home here y'know!" she chided, still with a broad grin.

"Aw, I ain't nothin' special," Jayne said, secretly preening over the compliment. "I c'n be a gentleman if I try real hard. Maybe I oughta get myself some fancy clothes, huh? Get myself all spruced up?" He grinned. He'd had to wear fancy clothes a few times, when he was working as a rich fella's bodyguard, and it suited him about as well as a dog walking on its hind legs.

"You know that ain't true!" Kaylee seemed determined to make a fuss, especially since it might turn Jayne's favour to the Island a little more in the positive!

"Oh betcha could, that would be awful gentlemenly." She mused, tilting her head in a thoughtful manner, as though considering what he ought to do, before it seemed to pop into her head. "Oh! Y'know, just make sure y'ask their name b'fore y'start talking 'bout sex!" Her words were bright as always, voice as though she'd realised a brilliant but rarely used concept.

In truth it was no more than a fond tease, seeing as Jayne's behaviour around women as observed by Kaylee, was on that little dustbowl planet with the whore house after all!

"Wonder how come it missed me, have y'seen anyone else yet? Is Cap'n or River younger too?

"Cap'n's a scrawny little thing. Got a look at him 'fore I stepped out this morning." Jayne chuckled. "I ain't seen River, but I heard someone runnin' 'round the halls earlier, so I expect she's little too."

He paused and added, in a lower voice, "Reckon Wash would've had fun bein' little, playin' with his dinosaurs an' all."

"Well how is it, I'm th'oldest on the ship!" Kaylee laughed, also trying to picture the Captain.. not looking like the Captain, but a little kid. "Oh hell he must be fumin' somethin' terrible Jayne." Kaylee bit her hand to her mouth, in the manner of someone trying to suppress their amusement, and perhaps their shock all in one.

Mention of Wash turned her mood sullen some, but she kept up a smile still. "Reckon he woulda. Reckon he'd a made sand castles just so's he could knock 'em down again with them dinosaurs!" At least the thought of that made her grin, even if there was her fear of others leaving.

"This ain't a permanent thing is it? You ain't all gonna be like this forever?"

"Nah, it ain't gonna last longer 'n the weekend," Jayne said, sounding a little disappointed. "Did I tell you I was a girl for th' weekend before? There was another fella got turned into a girl too, an' he looked just like you. I swear, like two peas in a pod. Thought it really was you at first."

"Oh well, y'gotta be usin' yer time wisely. No wonder y'already got it planned out like." She considered, still wondering why it was that she had been passed by, must have been a reason.

"Oh y'did. Day I got here, I remember clear as day! Still ain't able t'imagine it though!" It'd been most confusing then, and well ..oddly enough given what she'd learned whilst here, not so confusing any longer. "Ain't that strange, don't 'spose it means somethin'? do y'think?"
