"Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner,
sometimes I feel like my only friend is the city I live in,
the city of angels.
Lonely as I am, together we cry...The song might have been a little melancholy, but the guy singing it wasn't. He'd picked it, actually, for the mellow intensity, and because hell, he just felt like it ( Read more... )

The Doctor, walking the beach with Atalanta, grinned to himself as he saw Jay with an entirely different baby. He waited to sing along until the chorus, and added some harmony.

I don't ever want to feel like I did that day...

Atalanta, remarkably, didn't bark at all.

Jay almost dropped his guitar. "Jesus!" he said, upon seeing the Doctor. "Listen, man, I appreciate the thought, but you scared me."

He laughed. "Not fair to do that to a guy who used to have a choir in his voice. You'll make me start checking to see if my scars are still around."

"Sorry, mate. A choir?" the Doctor asked, brow raised. "So there was more than just the wings?"

Atalanta went off and sniffed at a turtle, who looked unimpressed.

"Oh, yeah. A healing factor and I could do stuff with my voice," said Jay. "Like a choir. Dani Moonstar and some of the others were trying to get me to mimic pitches and stuff too."

Chase had heard the music playing and he'd know Jay anywhere, so he found his way down to the sound of the guitar, still keeping covered up as he found Jay. "My little songbird," he mocked wryly.

"My little pony," said Jay, letting his fingers slow to a stop. Yeah, it didn't make sense, but art didn't have to make sense. And as far as Jay was concerned, Mocking Chase was right up there with sculpting or something.

Chase just gave Jay a 'not funny' look as he shook his head. "I don't think so," was all he managed as he sat down beside Jay. "Uh, keep going," he said, like he was paying or something.

Well, Chase didn't exactly have to pay. Not that anyone did, but Jay figured the guy could have a couple songs. It took him a couple of seconds, but he began to sing again, still mellow and laid back.

With a huff and far too much noise than was necessary, Paige landed on the sand next into her brother, sending up a cloud of sand and a smile on her face, tossing her copies of Modern Computers down next to her.

"Ugh, now, I know that's pretty and all, but come on, Josh, play something up beat, even if it's Isty Bisty Spider or something," she complained, making a face as if it was the worst thing in the world. It was what sisters did, and she was smiling a bit too broadly for him to take her seriously.

"I'm sorry, Paige, but I don't know all the chords to 'Hey Mickey,'" he told her, grinning broadly. "Or whatever it is you kids are into these days."

She stuck her tongue out at him, like she was five years old, since sometimes she was, and they were. "'Us kids'? Last time I checked, you're still younger than me," she pointed out.

"Prettier too," said Jay, trying to look arrogant about it.

Preparing to scold the guitar-player about the painkillers she'd now have to take due to his noise, Helen Hoover Boyle entered the room. Clack. Click. Clack

"Do you-" She stopped in her tracks. Literally.

"Oh" She said, lifting an eyebrow and smiling. She fluffed the cotton candy on top of her head.

"That is beautiful" Helen Hoover Boyle swooned.

Huh, well, it'd been a while since he actually made a woman look like that, and even if she was... different... Jay wasn't about to scare off an audience member.

"Thank you very much, sugar. I aim to please."

Helen smiled and winked at the boy. His beautiful hair and skin shined and caused Helen to think of sex. For whatever reason, Oyster comes to mind.

"Aim to please?" Helen walked closer. "Do you take requests....?"

"Yeah, if I know the song," said Jay. "Just to warn you, since all our worlds don't match up and all." He shrugged a little.

She sat quietly on the sand, her knees pulled to her chest and her arms wrapped around them as she just listened to him sing. When she realised he was gone (and his guitar was too), she'd asked Duo to watch Sola. She didn't know what she'd do without the bunch of them - her uncles, perhaps. Jack and Qui-Gon and Duo and Han and Jim.

But now she just listened, knowing he'd notice her eventually, but content to sit there on the beach, her chin on her knee as the sea breeze tugged at her waist-length curls.

Jay kept on playing, because he wanted to finish the song and it wasn't often he really got to sing for her anymore. When he was done, he gestured her over. "Come here, sugar."

Padme stood up, and padded closer on the sand, her feet bare as her shoes sat next to where she'd been sitting. "Jay-" She smiled, and her fingertips skimmed his cheek.

"I love listening to you play."

"I love to play for you," said Jay, turning his face so that he could kiss her properly. "Sola with Duo today?" It was funny, that the young man he'd been jealous of before now watched his daughter.
