River Song -Doctor Who - 3 & 2 [Suicide, a few hours] songofsong June 28 2011, 06:45:49 UTC
Well, there was the proof. River Song's death wasn't a fixed point in time at all. She laughed dryly with the energy she had left, slowly relaxing her alpha meson gun out of her hands as she sank down the wall of the Stormcage Facility. The last Doctor she had seen barely even recognised her. She knew was what coming next. He wouldn't know at at all. She had always said it was going to kill her, nobody realised what that meant.

"God dammit," she breathed as she felt regeneration energy begin to spark throughout her body. She made another reach for the gun, gasping quietly from the effort. She wasn't going to renew her cells, not this time. This was a real death.

The last thing she was going to hear was a telling off by a mother she had barely seen? That was rich.

"Stop it," she snapped, angrier than she felt. "You don't understand this, not yet."

"So what? You're just going to kill yourself?" She asked, her tone angrier this time, hands gripping the bars of her cell.

"I've already done it," she said, calming her tone again as she leant her head against the wall. "It's just taking time. Amy, go back to the Doctor, you shouldn't be seeing this."

Amy couldn't calm down, why would anyone want to do this to themselves? It was a cowards way out in her opinion. "No. I am not leaving." She told River firmly, "Just regenerate, you've done it before." Amy said with desperation.

"Not this time," she said, slowly shaking her head. "It's ok, Amy. It's not the end for you. You have your whole life with me. But for me, this is the end. The Doctor has been gone a long time now - you.. you and dad, even longer."

Methos saw her, looking up when she cursed. His eyes were laced with concern, "River?"

River heard a familiar voice, one she'd never expect to hear within the confines of Stormcage. It was the 51st century, and it seemed Methos had finally caught up. Reluctantly opening her eyes, she turned her head against the wall to see him stood on the other side of the cell doors. "Methos?" she whispered quietly. "What..? How did you get in here?"

"You know me. I'm a sneaky bastard.." he smiled faintly, as his hands traveled the bars trying to find a way to get her out. Something was wrong with her, something worse than being stuck in a cell.

River smiled slightly at his words, but by now it was a pained grimace. She saw him searching the bars, but Stormcage was a notorious prison. The locks were complex - it had taken River a week to work out the codes.

"You know you shouldn't be here," she said, slowly covering the gun with her hand. He didn't need to know.

"I know a lot of things. And it's my opinion that you shouldn't be here either." he said with a frown.

"Oh, honey," she said quietly, wincing slightly as she felt her body begin to fight back against the blast she had shot herself with. "I've been here for a long time, you just never knew why."

Methos could see the blood now, smell it. His eyes were wide first, then he felt like his heart was being ripped out. He sank to his knees, trying uselessly to pull the prisoner door open out of sheer force of will.

"I don't care why, River... I just want to get you out." he shook with a fear he hadn't felt in eons. He'd experienced so much death. But River had always seemed so timeless. His oldest friend. Oldest love.

"My body might be built to live forever, but I'm not," she told him, watching him as he clutched at the prison bars. "I know what's coming, Methos, and I can't bear it." She made a pained sound as she forced the regeneration back again, doubling over as she clutched her chest. She gasped as she continued to talk, her breathing becoming laboured. "You'll see me again, Methos. There's so much more to come for you."

"That's doesn't make it okay. I'll see you again... but I'll know this is your future." Methos eyes started to water. Why did every one have to leave? He'd thought maybe she'd be different. Perhaps after all this time he should resign to the fact that none of them were strong enough.

"Why? What's so terrible that you can't bare to see it?"

River shook her head. She couldn't say the truth. It'd hurt him, and she could tell how much he was already struggling with what he was witnessing.
