Characters: The Earthly Bound

The Anomaly: Better known as Lilith, she is God's divine agent on Earth. She came into existence fully formed in a moment of deep emotion between her parents, the Messenger and the Keeper. They hid her away in Paradise at first, teaching her about their realm and the realms below. When she was discovered by God, He declared she was not an angel and thus could not stay in Paradise. She was sent to Creation to "fix it"; ie, cut out the cancers destroying it. Which basically means she kills people for God. She was used by her father in his plot to overthrow God, and now resides with Joseph and Ana Harding, and her Aunt Tarah. Her constant companion is a cairn terrier named Adam.

Joseph Harding: Originally one of seven Potentials, Joseph is now the last remaining prophet. Once a successful and promising young author, he fell prey to drug and alcohol addiction in his mid-twenties, causing a strained relationship with his agent and one-time girlfriend Lydia Gray, the mother of his daughter, Ana. He was to be killed by Lilith as part of the Messenger's plot, but she realized his importance and instead helped him save Ana who was under attack. They escaped to a safehouse in Maine, where he watched his four year old daughter kill the Messenger, then moved more permanently to a house in Texas along the Gulf Coast. With Lilith's help, he quit cold turkey and has stayed clean and sober for almost four years. He spends his days writing and homeschooling Ana.

Ana (Harding) Gray: Now eight years old, she is the new messiah, although her destiny will not take hold until she comes of age at thirteen. Born to Lydia Gray and her estranged boyfriend, Joseph Harding, Ana spent the first four years of her life living with her mother and occasionally seeing her father. When her mother was murdered by the Messenger, she was rescued first by the Functionary, who stayed to fight the renegade angel, and then by Joseph and Lilith, who took her to a safehouse in Maine. However, the home wasn't as safe as they though and the Messenger tracked them, where he met his end by young Ana's hand, an act that revealed her as the new messiah. She then moved to a house in Texas with Joseph, Lilith, and the newly human Tarah. There she has lived for the past four years, remaining fairly sheltered. She is homeschooled by her father, as well as sitting through the odd lesson from Tarah or Lilith. Despite knowing the importance of her impending destiny, Ana wishes to be a normal, carefree child. She has bonded with Lilith, seeing her as a motherly figure, although she refers to her as "auntie".

Tarah: When the Functionary was killed trying to stop the Messenger, she was reborn a human. At first she was disoriented, unable to form coherent sentences; had Lilith not found her, she likely would have died. Taken to the house in Texas, she slowly began to adjust. Lilith cared diligently for her, even choosing her new name. As a means of becoming acquainted with her human motor functions, Lilith gave her aunt a crochet hook and a ball of yarn. After four years, what was once a rehabilitation exercise is now a serious passion. Tarah has also mastered knitting and is starting on weaving, but still prefers the simplicity of crochet. Her language has shifted dramatically from her days as an angel; verse has been replaced by plain sentences, although she still refuses to use contractions of any sort. She enjoys her life now, although she still pines for her former one. To Joseph, she has become a mentor and confidant; to Ana, she is a dear friend. To Lilith, she is a companion and family, the only one in the house who can begin to understand what her life is like.
