monetary aid

I've decided that I definately need to change my name before the end of college so that I don't have to mess around with examining bodies and trying to change my name on certificates. I'd like to get it done before my next gic appointment next month in the vague hope that I'll get mones, if I don't get them this appointment then it'll screw up ( Read more... )

Changing your name can be done for much less than that, you just need to prepare the statutory declaration document yourself and get it witnessed by a solicitor or magistrate's clerk, mine cost me £6.

It needs to be done by deed poll, and even if it didn't I don't have £6.

Why? A stat dec is a valid legal instrument once witnessed, accepted by everyone that needs to be informed. Magistrates Clerks will sometimes do them for free apparently.

It just says I need a Change on Name Deed, it doesn't say why.

I changed my name by statutory declaration last year. It cost me £5. I don't know where you've got your figure of £60 from.

I don't know of any charitable organisation that will be prepared to lend you the money for something like this. Perhaps try getting in touch with a temping agency and getting work that way? Sell things on eBay or at car boot sales?

It needs to be done by deed poll which is about £60, and even if it didn't I don't have £5.

I've tried going through agencies and I didn't get anything through them, I can't afford ebay fees and I'd need a guarenteed sale which I can't get with ebay, and I can't get to any car boot sales, not that I know where there are any.

Why does it need to be done by deed poll?

I'm with a temp agency and I've worked over the past four years pretty much non-stop. Try another agency. Call them constantly, don't just sit there and wait for them to come to you.

I don't mean to be rude, but when you say you don't even have £5, couldn't buy a can of coke - shouldn't staying fed and healthy be a higher priority right now?

I've been where you are, i've had to steal to eat, so this isn't an attack, just a question of clarification.

I live with my parents, so that's not a problem right now. Come september I'm not sure what I'll do.

Ah - I just checked your user info, wasn't sure how old you were either.

Do you know why it is that you keep being turned down for jobs?

I've never had a job so I've got no experiance, it could be that, or that I'm underqualified as I only have A levels. I can only speculate as I've never been told why.

Everything everyone said about the Statutory Declarations is true. That's what I did. Just make sure you get a few Certified Copies when you do it. Everywhere will accept one of those. I used mine with the passport office and the DVLA, and they are about as tight as they come.

Also, IPL(Intense Pulsed Light) treatment is a viable alternative to laser, and much cheaper. It works on the same principle. I had a course of 6 sessions for roughly £400(About five years ago. Not sure what prices are like now) and it cleared the vast majority of my facial hair. The little that remains is much softer and I can easily keep it down by plucking it. Just google around for beauty parlours in your area that offer it ;)

The place where I'd get laser from also does IPL, so I could ask about prices when I can find time to go there. It'd still leave me with the problem of where I can find the money for it though.
