I've decided that I definately need to change my name before the end of college so that I don't have to mess around with examining bodies and trying to change my name on certificates. I'd like to get it done before my next gic appointment next month in the vague hope that I'll get mones, if I don't get them this appointment then it'll screw up

Both of my exes went the stat dec route it's perfectly viable.

Stat decs don't have to be witnessed by a professional lawyer - any one of 'suitable standing' in the community can do it. for example, Justices of the Peace (it's likely that several of your local Councillors will be JPs).
