I've decided that I definately need to change my name before the end of college so that I don't have to mess around with examining bodies and trying to change my name on certificates. I'd like to get it done before my next gic appointment next month in the vague hope that I'll get mones, if I don't get them this appointment then it'll screw up ( Read more... )

Changing your name can be done for much less than that, you just need to prepare the statutory declaration document yourself and get it witnessed by a solicitor or magistrate's clerk, mine cost me £6.

It needs to be done by deed poll, and even if it didn't I don't have £6.

Why? A stat dec is a valid legal instrument once witnessed, accepted by everyone that needs to be informed. Magistrates Clerks will sometimes do them for free apparently.

It just says I need a Change on Name Deed, it doesn't say why.

What does? Generally anyone that asks for that will accept a stat dec, and if they don't they are are out of date and they probably just need it explaining to them that they should :)

The referal letter from the GIC and the Clinical Management Policy thing I was sent with it.

Do you know of anyone in salisbury that'll do it for free? I could allways have it done if I can get it done free and see what they say at the appointment.

Do you have a family solicitor? If so, they may well do it for nothing.

If it's for CHX, then yeah, a Stat Dec is fine.

no it does not have to be done by deed poll
30 years ago maybe
but a statutory decleration is fine
I know I been using teh same stat dec for my last 2 passports, my old blackone I got 15 year ago and my more recent one
