*There was an awful lot to learn about having a bond. What was hard was determining when something slipped past their blocks on one another. Or what slipped. Optimus was sure it had happened on his side often enough to make Megatron smirk - since apparently everything he did made Megatron smirk. Or laugh. Or something equally degrading for Optimus. It was all kind of ridiculous. But, things rarely came through the bond from Megatron's end, except when they were 'facing. And in the.. well, the times they had, Optimus could tell things were blocked off. Maybe the bond really was one-sided sometimes ( ... )

[Starscream receives the comm. He is so shocked at recognizing the senders comm signature that - well if he were walking outdoors he would have promptly fallen down a hill - but he is presently in his apartment seated on a soft bench and polishing his sword. He almost spills the small bottle of choji oil, as he gives a start. Saving the tipping bottle from falling from the table before him, Starscream replies.]

[What could he say? haven't seen you since I cowardly and dishonorably left you in a compromised position and alone with one who considered you his rival?]

[Starscream, though completely distraught, cannot help but slip easily into his old haughtiness when speaking of Decepticon ways.]
I know what battlelust for a rival is; I felt it myself. And, I may never know Megatron's spark, like you, but I do know him. He's not like the one I knew before, but that doesn't mean there are not similarities. I did not want to see, when I left you both together in that cave, how strongly he felt. That lust for the rival is a powerful draw and lends itself to physical acts. When Megatron dismissed me from the cave, whether conscious or not, that was very likely the point of no return: his choice of his rival over what he could have with me. And whatever happened then led to your being bonded ( ... )

*Listening to Starscream talk, Optimus felt his processor began to wonder. There were a lot of points made in his, uh, speech, but quite a few of them were contradictory. And though most Decepticons had quite a grasp of sarcasm, Optimus couldn't quite tell the difference between sarcastic and non-sarcastic with Starscream right now. If anything it sounded like he was placing the blame entirely on Megatron, just like Optimus had done in the beginning as well.
And yet, a small voice in the back of his processor questioned if he had also sounded like that at some point in time. Before landing on Earth and experiencing fighting the true Decepticons, he'd been prone to giving long-winded and complicated "inspirational" speeches. He could see Bulkhead and Bumblebee's optics glossing over now as he thought about it. Did he sound like Starscream does right now ( ... )

[Clearly Optimus still did not really understand Decepticon ways. But he did manage to pick-up on Starscream jealousy...which he supposed was a fair way to describe his particular selfish, sick and tormented feeling.]
Eh. Yes. Exactly. I did want to bond with him, and now you have, and you do not even want it!
[That had to be nearly the definition of tragedy! One disdaining what they possessed, while the one who would treasure it was denied!]
