So we got up at 8 a.m., stripped the sheets off our bed, moved the mattress and the frame (it's a platform bed) into the library/nursery, moved boxes and etc. out of our bedroom, and Bear vacuumed. Now it's 11:22 and we're still waiting on Ikea to deliver our new bed (between 8 a.m. and noon). Once they do we can shower and go get some lunch ( Read more... )

You could get a king sized duvet cover and stuff the ugly king size comforter in there - that's what we did.

seconding the king sized duvet cover suggestion. Ikea is a good source for them at reasonable prices. Or they were when I purchased one there.

That's a good idea, thank you both.

When I was little, my twin bed always had those big, king-sized pillow cases. We just tucked the excess under the pillow and it worked fine.

I had plenty of dreams where the baby was poking out through slits in my belly. Haha. And I would try to poke it (often a boy in my dreams, once he was even black!) back inside, "You're not done yet!"

Fold pillowcases, as the_questess suggests, or hem them, or leave them in the closet and use your old pillowcases. If you want them hemmed badly enough to waste postage, you can mail them to me and I'll hem them for you. Act fast, and I can send them when your family comes to visit; act a little slower, and I'll just be forced to drive them back to you! :) I would say send them home with your mom after she visits and I'll hem 'em and bring 'em back, but as I recall she was supposed to give me a pair of pants a year and a half ago, so entrust your linens to her at your own risk.
Speaking of your mom's impending visit, I hear the womenfolk of your whole tribe plan to descend upon you. Plus you write here that MiL will be coming soon too. Egads, woman! You may be a bit lonely in Carolina, but by the time all your guests leave, you'll be glad of that, methinks.
So I won't threaten you with a visit too soon. I work through sometime in June anyhow. Maybe sometime this summer I can come and make myself useful.

You're welcome to come visit in June--I'll be done with work by then.

I have some king pillowcases too but I just use the regular size ones. Looks like somebody beat me to the punch but I could hem them for you too. Or if you're having a girl, I could make a cute little dress from one - squeee! :) (Lots of good ideas)

P.S. I'll be interested to hear how you guys like the IKEA bed!

So far we LOVE the Ikea bed! It's the all-natural foam with springs (I think).
