Lost At Sea, A Double Drabble

Summary: A child’s drowning at his uncle’s hands would kick up a fuss. Snape hated being involved in fusses.

Yay! You did it, and so quickly! The best variant of "stealing" an unwanted abnormal child one can imagine.
I love the comparison with Tobias.

(As a side note, you can not know it, but I've written a short story from my own original world last year, which was dealing with this very theme. The child was magical and the parents were not, and the mother (and some other people from the vicinity) were trying to "help" the child to "be normal" (by exorcising her), while the child was dreaming all the time about an unknown man (a monk, somebody quite similar to Severus in his urge to help, because nobody helped *him*, when he needed it most as a child), who could come and rescue her. I even won a prize with it. Pity that it is in Czech...)

Oh terri, how did you know it was my birthday yesterday? Meta AND a drabble from you, you really shouldn't have! ;D

Seriously though, this is fantastic. I'm working up my thoughts on the meta piece (bravo! to start with), but this is just a gem. Dear Severus. And oh Neville! Now I want to see them at Hogwarts.

I loved this, was thinking about it all day. Based on your meta, I'm guessing in this verse Albus decided he doesn't need help raising Harry to die on cue, so he let the bereft Severus off. With Lily dead and Sirius in Azkaban Severus had no clear direction, so he would have fallen into depression, but he survived, somehow. He could make a living selling some sophisticated potions on the wizarding black market, if those are expensive enough he only needs to work once in a while to keep his very modest lifestyle. Blackpool shouldn't be that far from Sevrus' hometown, but I'm not sure why he was there in the first place. I wonder if he was contemplating drowning himself when he saw Neville falling (well, being dropped ( ... )

You know, Severus might not want to send Neville to Hogwarts while Albus is headmaster. Once he is gone he might reconsider. Especially if in the resulting staff reshuffle he gets an offer that lets him be close to his son.

Oh, wonderful! Yes, this is plausible, and it's great to have a positive turn of fate for Severus.
Love Oryx's ideas about where it could lead, too.
(Thanks for the dedication :) sorry if I was too doubting)
