I really think your crochet work is lovely. My friend, Peggy, bought Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, when she came over here in the mid 90s, because there weren't many in the UK.
I really need to set up my Halloween village this weekend.

Indeed, Halloween capitalism has struck in the decade I've been here. :-D I think I have a Jack-o-lantern candle holder I should get out. That and my blanket. Oh, and a witch's hat to wear for the trick-or-treaters -- all two or three of them I'll get!

As a rule, I don't get trick or treaters at my home. My complex is mostly adults, and the children tend to be very, very young. A few teenagers, hanging on to their youth, come usually later in the evening. I don't answer the door to them, old sour puss that I am!

I crocheted two enormous (double-bed-sized) blankets when I was at college. Multi-coloured out of spare bits of wool. They took ages, and I was so proud of them. The edging makes a big difference to yours. Well done.

My mom started me on granny squares, but I never joined them up. Then, at 18, a friend's grandmother taught me broomstick lace, and I made any number of afghans using that stitch. No joining up!! All got left behind when I moved over here. I'm sure I didn't intentionally left my very first one behind, and maybe it's actually in one of the couple of unpacked boxes in the loft.
