I've been getting ready for the holidays and preparing lots of food and cleaning the house.

In the last couple of days, I've made friends with the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker florist. Which is kind of neat on the one hand, and kind of unfair on the other. It's my tendency toward building community roots battling with my wanderlust ( Read more... )

Oy, I know the feeling. All my friends are out of state.... I'm visiting some over the next few Yomim Tovim, trying to keep in touch with the communities I've moved out of. It's hard, but worth it.

Have a chasiva vechasima tova! :)

My problem is that I suck at keeping in touch with people from places I've left. I'm horrible at it.

(And to you! L'shanah tovah!)

Man, you're making me hungry. I'm going to have to go out to Farrell Bread this weekend and get some challah. Ooh, this time of year, they might even have their raisin challah!

It's sacrilege to have a Rosh Hashanah challah without raisins! I don't know why they even bake them that way! (Well, when I was a kid, I was grateful, but I got over my bad taste and learned to love it with raisins.)

Should I not mention that there's brisket in the works?

*whimper* I love the smell of a good brisket. And Stu's more than happy to eat it. (Tofu just isn't the same.)

Yummy fresh challah. Especially when it hasn't been cooked by a swarm of 5th graders using dough made by harried folken working at a synagogue. That was... interesting...

Raisins in challah detract from the wonderfulness that is plain challah. It's good, but not as good.
