I've been getting ready for the holidays and preparing lots of food and cleaning the house.

In the last couple of days, I've made friends with the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker florist. Which is kind of neat on the one hand, and kind of unfair on the other. It's my tendency toward building community roots battling with my wanderlust ( Read more... )

Man, you're making me hungry. I'm going to have to go out to Farrell Bread this weekend and get some challah. Ooh, this time of year, they might even have their raisin challah!

It's sacrilege to have a Rosh Hashanah challah without raisins! I don't know why they even bake them that way! (Well, when I was a kid, I was grateful, but I got over my bad taste and learned to love it with raisins.)

Should I not mention that there's brisket in the works?

Unless you're willing to sort out the muddle that is my recipe, I can add you to the list of people who want it after I put it in a coherent order.

So far, I'm the only one that understands what it says other than my grandmother whose recipe it is. But if you want to give it a go un-coherent-ified, I'd be happy to e-mail it to you.
