SCA Quandry (again)

Sep 01, 2010 22:41

There's a personal challenge that I've been meaning to set myself for at least a year and a half, probably much longer - to enter every Kingdom A&S competition in the SCA for a year (from rowany festival to rowany festival).  Last year I was busy, and the A&S topics were uninspiring.  This year, I find the A&S topics even worse, but I'd like to ( Read more... )

great suggestions. unfortunately most aren't on my top 100 list, because i don't want them, or useskillsets I'm indifferent in (notice how many of those are working with leather or metal). A bag for my gear is though, that's a wonderful idea, so perhaps I can sort of wangle that. A favour, a true period favour, perhaps I could do (gloves, rings, they are on my list), if I can prove favours to fighters so early ( ... )

Jousting equipment - how about a detachable maunche (with of course the whole gown to go with it!) as a favor for the jousting knight ( ... )

I don't know about you but gloves or hats would be very important on a hunt,

also how blainting are they about the jewlery could it be an ilumination of their jewlers or an embrodery version of their jewlery???

also lok into Tudor as a fist name Tudor says he found some sources listing the name Tudor who apearently died in 1311 (he was welsh) and their may be some eariler, so you could make something for this Tudor (knights and barrons ect). or an example of what he would have had access to. :D

I'd say a lady's favour would be a perticualry important piece of jousting equiptment.

Hunting... a horn, something to do with falcolnry accessories like gloves? (I can only think of the Manesse codex as showing a woman hawking with gloves though), fishing with netting or weights, perhaps? Maybe basketry for making an eel trap or something similar?

Darn, most of these have already been suggested. :(

thanks everyone!!!

I'm collecting images of 12th C hunting, and finding they are a lot rarer than I though at hte moment. I think I'll be drawing a longer bow and using one of the offbeat suggestions here instead. I think women hawked, but not hunted, but I can't prove it. I'm tempted by a fishing or rabbit net.

I think the favour might be it for jousting.

Maybe Mr Tudor's jewelry. The illumination of jewelry is a cool idea. I think I've 16th C inventories of older jewelry. O(r I might just appear the category.

I'll keep researching the seal and tag I'd like to make, and maybe something will turn up so It can be made. Or worst case I can submit a research only entry.
