SCA Quandry (again)

There's a personal challenge that I've been meaning to set myself for at least a year and a half, probably much longer - to enter every Kingdom A&S competition in the SCA for a year (from rowany festival to rowany festival).  Last year I was busy, and the A&S topics were uninspiring.  This year, I find the A&S topics even worse, but I'd like to ( Read more... )

great suggestions. unfortunately most aren't on my top 100 list, because i don't want them, or useskillsets I'm indifferent in (notice how many of those are working with leather or metal). A bag for my gear is though, that's a wonderful idea, so perhaps I can sort of wangle that. A favour, a true period favour, perhaps I could do (gloves, rings, they are on my list), if I can prove favours to fighters so early.

The trouble with doing horsey or elizabethan stuff is that I'd spend longer researching it than making it - it's the research time I'd regret wasting, not particularly the making time, but research is my main thing, so I don't think I'd be willing to put in a competition entry that didn't have high level research. Even stuff as simple as plain pins does have characteristic differences over 400 years that don't show up until you look at the fine details (tudor ones have welded heads by law).

I kinda know the style of seal I'd design for Krae Glas (A two piece seal die with a city scene based on period city seals I think, despite the beauty of our device and supporters), what i need is a sucker who likes engraving/carving fine details.
