Hope was in love, absolutely and completely in love with the new medical facilities. Almost as soon as she arrived the head nurse pulled her aside and gave her the grand tour. The hospital was split between mutants and non-mutants which she didn’t approve of but the whole base was divided like that. She had two wards to run, complete with staff. All the nurses seemed to be fine with treating mutants but she was tempted to ask Stryker for their files, just so she could make sure they could handle the difficult patients. Her job would be so much easier if the others would just be good patients. She would have to give all the staff a little talk about what to expect, especially with Martini. Or Victor if he ever came in.
That was all forgotten when the head nurse brought her to her new lab. Her first look at it, sweeping walls of glass and wide open rooms and more research equipment than she had seen since college, stole her heart. It was her idea of paradise. Access was still restricted, but she was in charge of the whole thing. She even had lab flunkies for once. She no longer had to do the basic tests herself. Finally she had the job she always wanted. She was a little excited but she still didn’t know what the research was for and just what the point of it all was. She thought that with more machines, more instructions she might just figure it out.
She didn’t have time for that now though. On her first day, she had to get right to work. Ric was coming in for her to look at his leg and finally talk him out of using those crutches. He just had stitches and while there were a lot of them, he didn’t need crutches to get around. At this point they were mostly psychological instead of helpful. All she had to do was convince him of the same thing. Her main goal, besides checking on how he was healing, was to get those things back and keep them and after that she was disappearing into her lab.
All she had to do was wait for Ric to show up.
