cleaning stuff [ota]

With everything being so damn cold, Jane avoiding the whole 'lets go outside during the day' thing because it was just insane, and really, he didn't like cold that much. His stint serving in Antarctica had proved that to him years ago. Instead he sat in the mess hall, his fire arm taken apart on the table in front of him, cleaning it out ( Read more... )

While others may have been complaining about the cold and the change of location, Scion embraced it. He didn't mind , not at all. When he was given a mission he was constantly being sent back and forth from location to location. He was rather used to never having a place to calm home and always having to readjust his life according to where he was. The cold didn't bother X-13, nor did the heat, the rain, the snow- nothing seemed to faze this man. He was the definition of the perfect soldier, quiet, constantly yearning to please, the whole local ( ... )

Jane glanced up, a smile on his face when he noted it was Scion -talk much, no not really, but he could appreciate the good solider routine as much as anyone else. "Yeah, sure. Pull up a seat."

Scion was just a little on the drone side but he was for all intents and purposes a decent enough guy; wasn't snoring in his sleep or threatening to gut anyone. All in all it worked fine. "Grabbing some grub?"

Scion nodded in thanks to the invitation, his eyes flickering green as he pulled up a chair telekinetically. He took his seat, placing the tray on the table, everything set up neat and pristine on his place. All the necessary food groups were covered, his pills were in a cup for him to take right next to his large glass of water. Everything about the mutant was totally and completely perfect because he was so used to being the little soldier boy. He cut the meat in clean little squares, sticking his fork in to it neatly as he brought the food to his mouth, looking over at Jane his eyes flickering to the cup of tea.

"Yes, are you not hungry?"

"Nah," Jane smirked at Scion's easy use of powers, "not that hungry, just chilling instead." It was a little strange how routine everything was for Scion, everything was so in order, it was almost creepy.

Jane on the other hand wasn't quite as dedicated a soldier. Did he follow the rules, yes. Did he eat, sleep and breath the Air Force, sure enough. But he did have his other interests, life didn't solely revolve around his career, his orders or rank.

And since his superiors discovered his mutation, it seemed like something else was going to have to build in importance.

Asher headed into the mess book tucked under his arm. He'd already cleaned his own guns but he oddly enjoyed watching others care for their's. He gestured to a spot across the table,"You mind?"

"Not at all." Jane was a fairly sociable person, he didn't mind company at all, and company that could appreciate the need for good gun maintenance, well that was just fine too. "Hey, I'm Worth."

No first names, because he wasn't stupid.

Oh, sometimes Jane wished he could change name, but his mother had insisted she had reasons when he asked her -at seventeen even the little things mattered. "Pleasure. New around here or is that just me?"

Victor had to admit, he was mildly impressed by the newer team member he'd first met in the garage. Not only did Worth seem to slip easily into the military lifestyle here - a refreshing change from the whining, mewling complaints from so many of the other team members - but it looked like the man also knew how to take care of his weapons properly. Even though Victor had his claws, he still kept his knives and guns clean and in good working order, a habit instilled into him from years of military service, not to mention common sense. Even with his skills, a badly-maintained gun could mean the difference between life and death ( ... )

Frankly, the fact that the resident 'big bad' actually tolerated Jane and his random quirkiness was fine. More than fine really. Jane didn't do that 'sitting at the big boys' table because he was more inclined to fight for the little guy. It just meant he was a little more ostracised, but he did all right.

Jane, in true Jane fashion, grinned. It was his own greeting and while he wasn't picky with his friends, the wider the grin the better the idea that he liked you. Victor sort of fascinated him. A hundred plus, a seasoned veteran, and the possibility of actually getting a first person account of just what the hell went down in 'Nam all those years back.

Not that he was obsessively concerned about it. Not really. But having your imagination completely destroyed regarding your absent due to death father -who was supposedly hailed a hero, really didn't sit too comfortable for Worth.

He accepted the grin for what it was, an unspoken gesture of acceptance between two grown men; it wasn't often than people seemed glad to see him, but that was mainly Victor's own choice. It suited him just fine for most people to keep their distance. Having established a comfort zone with Worth, he set about dismantling his weapon slowly; a standard-issue Beretta M9, something he'd been using for the past ten years, and he was able to take the piece apart with surprising speed, even with his claws. After a few minutes, he did choose to speak, although it was more due to personal interest than to break an awkward silence - because as far as he was concerned, the silence wasn't awkward at all.

"So, you made any new friends out here yet?"

Jane nodded slightly, attention on his own 9mm, but answering Victor. "One or two, sure." His room mate for one, did that count as friends? Probably in Scion's mind, he'd talked, that had to stand for something.

"Couple of them don't seem like they fit." He was having trouble working out just why some of them were there. Edie, the kids, the pretty girl with streaked hair, the crazy redhead. What was going on, he wasn't sure. Maybe, having been around a touch longer, Victor would have a clue. Jane glanced over, indicating that he would appreciate Victor's opinion on that.
