I was fired from Sears this morning.  They gave me two or three different ID numbers, and I can never remember which one I'm supposed to punch in at the start of my shift, so they have me listed as coming in late or not at all.  (Though I think missing the bus today was what broke the camel's back for them; apparently the driver did not see me at ( Read more... )

yes you do get unemployment for being fired. You file and then likely they will protest it, but when you explain the issue with the different id numbers you should get it. That happened to me once a while back and I had no problem getting it. Hell, a friend of mine attended 3 days of training and the place let her go for not being enthusiastic enough and she got it.

Well, I'm talking to my caseworker. We'll see what happens.

I second this advice, highly. I always got UI when I was fired. The only reason you might not get it is because you were only there less than a month and haven't paid into it enough to get it. That has been my experience.

There needs to be a labor movement within the retail sector. Flextime was created to help workers with families and educational pursuits; not to increase the profits of corporate America. In these times of high unemployment, employers know that for every worker they lose, many will be there in hopes of filling the position. My advise to you is ~ Don't put these last two unsuccessful positions on your resume. If you like retail, the holiday season is upon us and there should be many positions opening up. Just keep your ID numbers straight and have a talk with the bus driver. Peace

Problem is, if it's not on my resume, it looks like I was just idle for the past year or so. And on applications, you have to put *all* your jobs down; it's typed right at the bottom of the sheet where you sign.

Yeah, they say that, but there are a few that I've skipped on those.

I had a natter with my retail team leader this very evening as my full time job is getting my wick and my part time retail job is being lovely. Right now, if you want to be in retail, the prospects appear good. Too many people are hearing *end of recession* and walking out of jobs they would otherwise stick because. My store (a supermarket chain similar to Wal-mart) had a cashier up and walk earlier so they are dying on their feet for overtime workers. Once my full time job stfu (the deadline is this week, ptl) I can go overtime nuts at the store.

You don't have to put places you worked at for less than 3 months on your resume, yeah? That's what I was always told.

That's what I thought, too. I'd leave it out, and nobody needs to know!

My resume is a mix of *short term temporary and fixed term contract* roles and years in this one, that one or the other one. Longest place I stuck was school. Followed by the chaos I currently inhabit, which I am doing my best to change. I'm on here because my husband is under-employed and I'm looking out for ideas for him, but I'm also job-hunting whilst being enslaved by one job I LOATHE and another I do like but need to look towards developing, hence the natter with the team leader earlier.

You can modify resume as you want - it is nothing, but your ticket to interview!

I'm not American, so I can't give any advice on unemployment (although applying couldn't hurt, right?), but you definitely don't need to put this on your resume!

Good luck!
