An entry almost too boring to write (phones)

I'm considering changing cell phone providers. Verizon is reliable, but it's not cheap. We pay around $70/month for two lines with no web/data, and only Gretchen has texting because she uses it and I hate it. I would like mobile web though, and I would like something cheaper. I'll settle for either of those things. It turns out that some providers ( Read more... )

We're somewhat the same. Trying to get service three years ago at Verizon took forever, but eventually we got all the things we needed. Their CS is no great shakes in person, but when we call in, it's ok. Years ago I had a TracFone and was generally satisfied with it.

We switched to Republic wireless around November or December. I've been generally happy with the service, and for $20/month/phone, it's worth the small quirks it has. We did have to buy the phones outright, but we saved that $ in about 4 months from what we were paying Sprint before.

Interesting. That's one company I've never heard of. I'll check them out. Thanks!

Can you tell me more about this? What are some of the quirks you've seen? I'm looking at their reviews right now. Some are good, some are iffy.

Overall, I'm happy with them. I get full data, unlimited text, unlimited calling, etc. You do need to set them up to use wifi signal as much as you can, that's it ( ... )

At this point, though, do you really have too much to lose by just going for it? You probably (hopefully?) won't be having issues that require contact with CS, so...what would it hurt to try it? And since it's no contract, you don't *have* to stick with it...

Very true. The no-contract is a nice advantage, especially if we go with a cheaper phone through Net10 or a similar provider. The only thing I'm worried about with regard to CS is we'll need to port our existing numbers over to the new phone plan, and that was one thing that a lot of the online reviewers had problems with. But I guess that's a pretty minor issue.

Oh yeah, I need to look into that. I think we do get service, but one salesman said it was spotty. I'm not sure how much I trust that though.

This goes without saying but.... ext_678578 April 8 2013, 14:13:26 UTC
we're talking cell phones here. Basing your wireless provider decision on customer service is like choosing a Cola based on nutrition.
