001 [Holo] Dammit...that's another butterfly

May 27, 2009 23:00

He’s always disoriented for a moment when he arrives someplace, body tense, wired for worry. What if he’d gotten it wrong? He opens his eyes, brow furrowed as he scans the room. Apparently this time, he’s gotten it very wrong. He’s supposed to be in 2011 New York…with his younger, stupider self ( Read more... )

Nathan sat in The Cantina, in the midsts of washing used glasses mostly for something to do. It'd wound up becoming a peaceful way to kill time, leaving him open to think as much as he needed to. And then when that got to be a little much, he'd automatically stop and move on to something else. The problem with the whole thing was when he heard Peter's voice over the tablet, he was so focused he just assumed it was the Peter he'd left with Claire no less than an hour ago ( ... )

"Kidnapped?" Peter says, one eyebrow quirking up. "Yeah I feel good about that considering you've put me at the top of the terrorist list."

Experimentally he shot a bolt of electricity across the room. So Nathan hadn't gotten around to taking his powers yet. However, apparently Nathan had the Peter that he was relying on fixing all this messed up world.

"Let him go. You can keep me, tell the world how you're cracking down on terrorism. It'll look great for your Presidency."

"This wasn't me." Nathan rolled his eyes to the ceiling, getting up and putting the glass he'd just finished away with the rest. "I'm not from the same world you are anymore, I'm already off that course." He definitely wasn't even close to the presidency anymore, and-- That wasn't important right now.

"Neither is Claire or Parkman. We're all just stuck here. We don't know who's plan this is part of, or why they're doing it, but we're not alone either. There were people here when we showed up, and there are more coming in by the day."

Oh...well okay. Yay for doing something right? Maybe he hadn't stepped on a butterfly this time around. Maybe he'd managed to avoid some sort of crisis. Finally he'd done something right in this whole thing.

"Okay...sorry," he apologized for jumping to that conclusion. "I just thought-right so that's good. That you're off that course."

He started pacing the room he's in, not concerned about getting out of the room until he's found out a little more information.

"Just people with powers?"

His string map hadn't prepared him for this.

As soon as he matched the voice to the familiar face, Matt was moving from his room in one of the abandoned buildings to reach the Sanctuary.

He was going to end up a very paranoid man if people like this continued to join them. Aside from Claire, he didn't much like the Petrelli's, as they always seemed to be screwing up his life. Call it what you will; teleporting a man to Africa and leaving him to die in the desert? In Matt's book, that's Attempted Murder 2. And that's without rehashing his spectacular rendezvous with Nathan. Now Matt was ready for blood; without Peter, things might've been -- well, who knew?

As soon as he's in reach of Peter's mind, he grasps as hard as he can at it in an attempt to get an upper hand while the other man is unprepared. He doesn't think through that this is not innocent Peter. Matt's too focused on making another man pay. He feels like he's got nothing to lose, now.

Peter was on full alert with the weirdness that's going on but Matt snuck a shot in that made the whole world shimmer with pain. In retaliation, Peter pushed back just as hard with just as much intent to cause pain.

Didn't like your travel accommodations, Matt?

Definitely not innocent Peter and he had learned to use Matt's power almost as well as he had out of necessity.

He stumbled from the shock of it as he rushed into the building, which angered him and he pushed back harder. It was like trying to grip a bar of soap lathered in grease. Every time he got the upper hand, began to create a world in which to lock Peter, he'd lose it again.

'I should kill you right now.'

Matt knew it was an empty threat; for everything he could do, Peter could counter almost without thought. He couldn't even get into the surface of the man's memories.

Peter pushes right back, not really trying to lock Matt in any kind of world--his vendetta with him is more a reaction than anything. His interest is mostly in making Matt back off.

'There's line. I'm pretty sure you're at the back of it but enjoy the instrumental music while you wait'

Yes, he made Matt hear elevator music. At least for a little while.

[Sasha is just bored enough to say hello to the new guy. She doesn't have enough answers to be helpful, but any response is better than none at all, right?]

I need to get back to 2007 too, I think we're both out of luck.

They just aren't trying hard enough. I'll figure out how to get out of here.
