001 [Holo] Dammit...that's another butterfly

May 27, 2009 23:00

He’s always disoriented for a moment when he arrives someplace, body tense, wired for worry. What if he’d gotten it wrong? He opens his eyes, brow furrowed as he scans the room. Apparently this time, he’s gotten it very wrong. He’s supposed to be in 2011 New York…with his younger, stupider self ( Read more... )

Nathan sat in The Cantina, in the midsts of washing used glasses mostly for something to do. It'd wound up becoming a peaceful way to kill time, leaving him open to think as much as he needed to. And then when that got to be a little much, he'd automatically stop and move on to something else. The problem with the whole thing was when he heard Peter's voice over the tablet, he was so focused he just assumed it was the Peter he'd left with Claire no less than an hour ago.

Which was why when he picked up the tablet and saw a completely different Peter standing there, he almost dropped the damned thing. "... Peter?" This felt redundant. It took him a minute before he could fully process the scar. Another Peter, from another world altogether. Thankfully, he didn't look like he was packing a gun this time. "Pete, what'd you... How..." Was he drunk again?

No, no, he definitely hadn't drank anything. He'd know. "Calm down. You've been kidnapped, but you're not alone. Claire, Parkman, and I are all here." Although he wasn't expecting all that warm an attitude from this Peter. At least he had one brother. "And... There's another you. From a different timeline."

"Kidnapped?" Peter says, one eyebrow quirking up. "Yeah I feel good about that considering you've put me at the top of the terrorist list."

Experimentally he shot a bolt of electricity across the room. So Nathan hadn't gotten around to taking his powers yet. However, apparently Nathan had the Peter that he was relying on fixing all this messed up world.

"Let him go. You can keep me, tell the world how you're cracking down on terrorism. It'll look great for your Presidency."

"This wasn't me." Nathan rolled his eyes to the ceiling, getting up and putting the glass he'd just finished away with the rest. "I'm not from the same world you are anymore, I'm already off that course." He definitely wasn't even close to the presidency anymore, and-- That wasn't important right now.

"Neither is Claire or Parkman. We're all just stuck here. We don't know who's plan this is part of, or why they're doing it, but we're not alone either. There were people here when we showed up, and there are more coming in by the day."

Oh...well okay. Yay for doing something right? Maybe he hadn't stepped on a butterfly this time around. Maybe he'd managed to avoid some sort of crisis. Finally he'd done something right in this whole thing.

"Okay...sorry," he apologized for jumping to that conclusion. "I just thought-right so that's good. That you're off that course."

He started pacing the room he's in, not concerned about getting out of the room until he's found out a little more information.

"Just people with powers?"

His string map hadn't prepared him for this.

"No." Nathan walked out of The Cantina, on his way back to the Sanctuary. This was definitely redundant. And a little on the frustrating side. If there was going to be two Peters, he'd rather the one who hadn't shot him. Although his options on getting a Peter who didn't hate him at least a little were non existent, the only other one was already there.

So he'd take what he got. At least this one was calming down. "All kinds of people, as far as I can tell. Some of them aren't even human. I'm not sure how many, or where they're from. I just know about you, Claire, Parkman, and the other you for sure." They were going to have to work out some sort of system with this name thing. It was an issue.

"And there doesn't appear to be any way out. Yet." The 'yet' was tacked on for both of them. "Start working on getting out of there, I'll come and get you."

Choice didn't really seem to be a concern of Taxon's. Although Peter wasn't aware of that just yet. For the moment, he's willing to listen to Nathan, taking his words with a grain of salt. In his world, he's been duped by Nathan one too many times to put the blind faith in him that he once would have.

"Okay," he nodded, pressing some more buttons on the tablet so that the door slid open. He ventured out cautiously, left hand held out, a small ball of blue electricity curled in the palm. "I'm out," he said in a quiet voice. He moved down the halls as if he expected to be ambushed at any minute, Matt's telepathy on full alert.

"And you've no idea who's doing this?" He said it in the same tone the parent of an only child and a broken vase would use.

"No." Nathan shook his head, the tone enough to send him kicking off and up into the air so he could get their faster. "All I know is, they haven't shown their hand. And I'm not sure they're going to. They seem pretty content with just leaving us here for some reason."

He looked ahead over the buildings to the one he was headed for, and sped up. "The other you thought this might be The Company, but I don't think they have anything to do with it. There're people here without abilities, and not because they've had them taken. There's no reason for them to start kidnapping normal people." He knew he certainly wouldn't have seen the point of it.

The idea that Nathan would be here sooner rather then later worried Peter. He hated being on opposing sides. They were brothers, they should have been together on this thing. At the same time, he's still Peter and part of him wanted Nathan there. He just wouldn't admit it, not now, not with everything his brother had done.

He was still walking cautiously, at the ready among the hallways. "Unless they're experimenting on them...giving them powers."

"I think there's enough people here that if that was the case, they would've made their move by now." Nathan reasoned, because once again, he knew it's what he would've done. He didn't think too long on it, just kept talking. "And I think this is too big, even for them." Although since someone had been able to pull it off, Nathan wasn't entirely sure of that.

He switched on the map while he flew, checking his location. "The way out's fairly easy to find. What's the last thing you remember before you wound up here?" Just so he could get an idea of exactly how bad the situation was with this Peter.

Nathan had a point and Peter was willing to concede that to him. Of course that got them no where and nothing except some measure of security that they weren't stuck in some sort of experiment.

"Right. I'm heading toward the exit now. I'll meet you on the sidewalk."

It would be easier to get away outside if this was all a trap anyway.

"I had just grabbed the 2007 version of myself and teleported to 2011 to show him what he had to stop. I ended up here and he...isn't."

Which was worrisome because letting the 2007 version of himself wander around 2011 without supervision was akin to turning a two year old loose in Times Square.

Nathan didn't like that. If he'd been ripped out of his timeline, then the 2007 Peter could be anywhere, and-- No. There was nothing he could do about it, he had to hope he'd be safe. He had enough versions of Peter to be concerned about right now.

"He'll be fine. He can take care of himself." He had no idea which one of tem that was actually for, but he focused in on the building he was coming up to. "He's a lot more capable than you think he is." Defending Peter to Peter. Nathan had a headache.

Although as long as no more Peters showed up, and absolutely no Nathans, maybe he could make this work. Nathan flew down to the sidewalk, making sure when he landed to give some distance just in case it was needed. This Peter didn't trust him nearly as much as the one he currently had with him, he was pretty sure it was required. "I'm here."

Peter had some of the same concerns about 2007 him. He didn't disagree with Nathan simply because worrying Nathan wouldn't do any good now and here.

"Sure he is," Peter answered and he sounded almost convinced. Almost. He extinguished the electricity in his hand as he pushed the door open just after Nathan announced his arrival. He appreciated the distance Nathan gave him as he stepped out onto the sidewalk.

He nodded in greeting, obviously appraising his brother. "You look...good."
