He’s always disoriented for a moment when he arrives someplace, body tense, wired for worry. What if he’d gotten it wrong? He opens his eyes, brow furrowed as he scans the room. Apparently this time, he’s gotten it very wrong. He’s supposed to be in 2011 New York…with his younger, stupider self

He was going to end up a very paranoid man if people like this continued to join them. Aside from Claire, he didn't much like the Petrelli's, as they always seemed to be screwing up his life. Call it what you will; teleporting a man to Africa and leaving him to die in the desert? In Matt's book, that's Attempted Murder 2. And that's without rehashing his spectacular rendezvous with Nathan. Now Matt was ready for blood; without Peter, things might've been -- well, who knew?
As soon as he's in reach of Peter's mind, he grasps as hard as he can at it in an attempt to get an upper hand while the other man is unprepared. He doesn't think through that this is not innocent Peter. Matt's too focused on making another man pay. He feels like he's got nothing to lose, now.

Didn't like your travel accommodations, Matt?
Definitely not innocent Peter and he had learned to use Matt's power almost as well as he had out of necessity.

'I should kill you right now.'
Matt knew it was an empty threat; for everything he could do, Peter could counter almost without thought. He couldn't even get into the surface of the man's memories.

'There's line. I'm pretty sure you're at the back of it but enjoy the instrumental music while you wait'
Yes, he made Matt hear elevator music. At least for a little while.

'Elevator music? That's how you react? You really are a freak.'
Whether or not the blame for what happened could be placed on anyone didn't matter to Matt at the moment. This Peter was already screwed up beyond help. It didn't matter if he paid for one more thing just to make Matt feel better. And there was always the chance that Matt could lose this battle.

You'd prefer something with bars?
Cells were really easier to manufacture than elevators. Peter wouldn't hurt Matt, not if he didn't have to.

'Hah, I'd like to see you try.' Why was he taunting the guy, again?
The elevator stopped at the designated floor, but Matt didn't notice while he still struggled at his three tasks of fending off Peter, attacking Peter and trying to read his memories. This was why Matt hated his ability sometimes.

'Really? Don't fuck with me, Matt. I'm not naive, trusting or stupid anymore.'
That's okay. The elevator wasn't an elevator anymore. Matt's taunting gave Peter just enough pissed off motivation to solidly lock the cell around the man. After all, he had one less job to do. He didn't care what Matt's memories were.

He'd known he was rushing, taking a stupid approach to weaken Peter with his own horrible memories. Now, Matt was imprisoned in his own mind, something he didn't think would ever happen to him again. His hand hit against the bars as he yelled in frustration out into the space.
